Okay I guess I am kind of amazed with this thread. I have never used anything to glue the grips to the bars on any bike I have owned. The Bikemaster heated grips I put on my VFR1200X I had to drive on and they will never come off. My bikes with regular grips I used the old adage cleanliness is next to godliness. I clean the bars with something like lacquer thinner and may be use that on the inside of the grip too as long as it does not dissolve the material. Inevitably they never can get push on all the way without assistance. This is where the air compressor comes in.
I use this method to install and remove grips. I use a small nozzle on my air hose and blow the grip up like a balloon and push it on or remove it. No lubricants of any kind, WD40, soap, glue, nothing. This method would not work on the bikemaster heated grips because they are ridged and will not flex.
An added note, most factory installs that I have seen have some sort of adhesive on the bars when the grips are removed. When I clean the bars all of the crap gets removed. They are clean of glue and grease or anything else.
