What about a warmest ride contest?

That's nuthin'. Go to Iran... In five of the seven years?2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, and 2009?the highest surface temperature on Earth was found in the Lut Desert. The single highest LST recorded in any year, in any region, occurred there in 2005, when MODIS recorded a temperature of 70.7?C (159.3?F)?more than 12?C (22?F) warmer than the official air temperature record from Libya. Think the ST would stay at 3 bars then???

ouch !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The 2016 Summer riding season is ON. This will be an easy temp to top. Rode from Tempe, AZ to Roosevelt Lake this afternoon with the Pillion, top temp was 96. Pillion wasn't armed with the camera today and with winds at 25mph and gusts to 35mph in the canyons, made for a lively ride.:wind1:
No pic so you can top this.

Our ST13 temp gauge is set to Celsius rather than Fahrenheit. Last year in Bari, Italy it was showing 48c (118.4f) at 9.30am, but the highest we had was 50c (122f) at about 4pm in Athens, Greece about 5 years ago... and the gauge was flashing on/off with that one!

Normally it's high 30's to mid 40's in southern Italy in June/July when we're touring there.

A little warm in the Phoenix area this weekend. Didn't notice any heat from the ST when I snapped this pic at a traffic signal. Not to worry it is a dry heat. IMG_20160603_163138585.jpg

I have seen the max.........a couple times. Eastern Washington can get mighty warm at times.

Most have been in traffic with not enough wind to say it was a "real" air temp. Still was a bit toasty......

On 7-6-18 it was very hot here in Lost Angels for a week or two. Many times the ST air temp gauge was maxed out at a blinking 122*F value. I captured this one in the shade

The good old ST water temp never went past 3 bars and the cooling fans ran like crazy after shutting the engine down.

Yeah, I saw 111F heading home myself last week. At least I wasn't riding two hours earlier when it was 115F! :eek:4:

Although, back in 2007, I was riding out to Arizona when I hit 115F for an hour and a half! What a blast furnace! :eek:4:

Your not going to want to hear it, but I would stop riding that bike until you get it sorted out!
You should start by having your starter valves sync'd at the very least.
Having ridden my ST across Arizona and New Mexico in the middle of summer, my temps have never shown more than 113 degrees.
Your bike should not be running that hot.

Three bars? I thought that was normal. Has been for my last two ST's and several thousand tank fills.

3 bars is normal, his temp reading is blinking at 122! That is not normal.

LOL, the cure for global warming is an oil change and a starter valve adjustment.

Shouldn't you be trying to sell the Moly M-77 at the parts counter and convincing folks its the correct stuff now :rofl1:

I see the blinking 122F anytime the outside temp is over 100F and I'm stopping for gas, after running 20 miles of lane splitting! :eek:4:

That's an OUTSIDE temp gauge... has nothing to do with engine temp unless you stop the bike and the heat from the engine warms up the sensor.

Well, I was in Denver for the past few days visiting my daughter and riding the mountains with ChuckKLRST and decided it was time to come home. Got up dark early and headed towards home yesterday. The Versys 650 LT was running good and I had anticipated stopping over night. But the closer I got to Granbury, it was still early in the afternoon. Why not just DO IT!

And so I did, all 750 miles. Ouch, a bit much for this ole guy.

But when I was coming thru Wichita Falls, I saw a temp on a local bank, in the shade, at 112. Now that’s hot!

Yes, getting the outside air temp to max out is easy. Especially in our southern climates and a pit stop to let the engine heat waft forward. Phx is supposed to hit 115 early next week again. :(

Thank you Mellow, i was going to say that, but you beat me to it.
The gauge is a little ambiguous, but its laid out such that:
- Thermometer graphic -> 6 bars, left to right increase coolant temp
- “air temp” -> 3 digits plus *F

Wonder how many over temp system overhauls our beloved has done due to this confusion
:rofl1:

Surely it was a senior moment. I should know. Sorry, the devil made me do it
