I need to know what type of bulb and what type of socket do the turn signal lights (front and rear) have? 1156? 1157? something different?
Thanks in advance.

By the way, I'm still confused about how to change the headlight bulbs. Cutting off tabs? what?

I have an 06 1300.

In order to use conventional H4 headlight bulbs, instead of the Honda OEM replacements, you'll need to trim of the two lower locating tabs.

I just replaced a right front bulb last week. Mine was a W21 Stanley 12 watt. It's dual filament with a crimped end not a traditional socket The numbers you're quoting are automotive and don't apply. Napa was a 4443 if memory serves. Cheers Marty

Not quite. Just bend the two lower tabs 90 degrees with a pair of pliers. The bulbs fit perfectly that way and the bent tabs seem to stabilize the bulbs nicely.

All 6 (4 signal, 2 tail) bulbs are the same. The rear signals just use the high watt filament. So if you lose a tail light, you could just swap it to one of the rear signals.

7443 is correct. If you can only get your hands on a 7440, that will work too, you just won't have a running light. If you're lucky you'll find 7443s in the rear turn signals that don't use the low wattage filament (as Ken said) and you could do a swap!

In the UK (and other countries that don't have amber running lights) the bulbs are 7440.

Here's an article with pictures explaining it. http://www.hard-core-ware.com/howtos/index.php?page=headlamp

You can cut the tabs or bend them back either works. The bulb will seat on the round portion of the base. The 1 remaining tab will fit in the slot to properly orient the bulb. The shim in the article is only needed on the st1100. iirc it uses the tabs to seat and orient the bulb.
You can change them without removing plastic. The pictures shows the bailing wire retainer and how it works since you won't be able to see anything when you hand is jammed in there.

Thanks for the answers to my questions!!
One more question, the ST 1300 uses 45 watt bulbs. will 60/55 watt headlight bulbs cause problems or burn out sooner?

In the UK, H4 bulbs have been standard for decades. I've ridden ST1100s and ST1300s since 2001; they've all had 60/55W bulbs and although I admit it's probably unusual, I've never had to replace one. Use decent bulbs like Osram SilverStars and you'll be fine.

60/55 work fine with the stock wiring.
If anything the left one will burn out quicker.
(they are not wired the same and see different voltage drops)

US 9003 bulbs have a smaller tolerance for filament position but otherwise the same as H4. Either will work and most are branded as meeting both requirements.

Another thing to check is your vertical aim. Many are pretty low as delivered from the dealer. The "hex nut, socket nut, phillips in the bottom of it" thingy on the healight adjustment motor moves them both up and down.

Do you have a link for these bulbs (turn signals), preferably a European one? Why I can't find any listings in ebay, except led ones?

This is what you'll find in most auto parts stores. Put "Sylvania 7443" in your search engine and you'll get online results for ordering.

George, do you need dual filament (7443) or single-filament (7440)?

For example - box of ten 12v 21W single-filament bulbs here.

The 7440/7443 bulbs are also known as T20 wedge bulbs.

They go by R580, or 380/2c, T20, 7440/3 and finally found what I wanted.

Thank Shuey and Hound :)

Guys, thanks for your help!! I was successful changing my headlight bulbs to 60/55 H4, installing and removing from the rear of the housing. No tupperware to remove! Also I ordered the 7443 wedge bulbs. Just waiting for my clear turn signal lenses to arrive (bought them on Ebay).
The new H4 bulbs are substantially brighter, too.

This thread was very helpful. I bought some headlights and the tabs didn't match. Was going to return bulbs put found this thread. Bend the two lower tabs and boom. It worked.
