Tuesday Coffee

Good morning everyone

Thanks for the Folgers, b4rownies, and cookies, Mac. Despite having been awake at 0200 and again from 0300 to 0400 I didn't get up until 0630 so I'm glad someone was there to cover for me.

In Rockville it's 59°F and cloudy, with expectations of a high around 65, scattered light rain beginning around 1000, and W winds building from 8 mph (with gusts of twice that) around 0800 to 20 mph (gusting to 35) by 1300 hours. Coincidentally, 1300 hours is the time set for my golf lesson, which was deferred from last Tuesday due to unpleasant conditions. We'll see what happens today.

Before the goof lesson I'll spend time on the phone with our financial advisor, reviewing accounts and planning our strategy for the next few months of roller coaster market conditions.

After the goof lesson my friend will come over to practice uke with me for a couple hours. This evening I'll play cards online with old friends, something that began during COVID and which has persisted into the present time.

Stay safe and well everyone and tell your dear ones you love them. Do it today, NOW, for tomorrow may be too late.
 
Forgot to mention the highlights of yesterday's round of goof, which had nothing whatsoever with my play (which was even worse than usual).

Entering the course we saw a tall egret wading in the shallows of one of the water hazards, stalking its midmorning snack.

A bit later we saw a bald eagle circling over the same body of water. A few minutes after that we saw an osprey doing the same thing.

Sometime later, we saw the osprey again, flying low and close enough to us that we could see it had some sort of prey in its talons- looked like a robin, perhaps. Moments after that we saw five minutes of aerial dogfighting as the osprey tried to escape the attentions of the eagle, which clearly wanted to have whatever it was the osprey had caught. They swooped, circlets, twisted, and spiraled gracefully just yards from us and low overhead. Two crows were "escorting" the eagle like wingmen , presumably hoping to cash in on a share of the spoils of the eagle was successful.

It was an awesome display and a thrill to see.
 
Good morning and thank you for the morning start Mac, 63 clear with a big moon shining going to 94 later in the day near Parker AZ where I stopped for the night and camped. Made it 600 miles yesterday.

I will be hitting the road for home after I check my phone and get packed up.

Cloudy and 56. High of 66, and windy. Winds10-15, with gusts to 35.

Yesterday involved the mower. The dandelions and wild onions look much better. It’s been too windy to spray herbicides, so I may have to break out the paint brush.

It's cloudy and 48 in MA this morning, rising to 64, later.
We expect off and on rain showerss this morning, clearing up a bit this afternoon, and then back to showers this evening.

Yesterday, Brenda mentioned going to the range, so that's what we did, after a walk by myself. I texted the owner of Mattie, the golden retriever, but she never got back to me until I was downtown.

Today, I'll visit the gym and see what transpires from there. I saw a number of bikes out during my walk, so I might just take one of mine for a spin.

10°/17°C, quite windy and occasional, sometimes heavy showers...

Office, nothing special, clients try to hold back payments with abstruse complaints, coming up with something 'new' every 30 days... a way too common procedure these days...

Yesterday my NAS pegged out...
In the morning a brief voltage drop, lights dimmed for not even a second, my AV receiver went into [protect mode]...
restarted the audio equipment, went into my "study" and found all IT lights green...
In the evening then the assigned network drive could not be reached... grrrr...
Tried all possible variations, including removal of CMOS battery, even tried to revive it with a USB Initboot Image (Linux OS)... no avail...
Seems the mainboard is dead, no beep upon power down/up, the USB ports don't seem to have power either... only fan and HDDs are spinning up...
A € 300,- doorstop now... ran since 2018...
The WD Red HDDs are likely unaffected...
Successor model € 330,-... more unplanned expenses... :cautious:

Good morning, all, and thanks for the coffee and goodies, Mac! Hmm...toll house cookies or brownies, decisions, decisions...oh, what the heck, I'll have one of each! :biggrin:

Looks like the forecast has shifted a little since yesterday. It's a balmy 10°C/50°F and fairly bright out there this morning. Conditions will get cloudier as the day progresses and the rain won't start until around midday. Looks like tomorrow will be pretty messy though, with some wet snow in the mix. We shall see.

Well, folks, looks like we've lost Obo as well! :( I hadn't seen him post in ages so I looked him up in the Members section...and even his user name and avatar are gone! Ray's is still there, but Obo's has vanished. Hope he's OK.

Those orange stringy-seedly-looking things are floating all around in a steady morning breeze, as a cold front reduces yesterday's gorgeous 85 degrees, to a more seasonal 71. I like the warmer days better. I'm pretty sure these airborne little fronds are coming from the big oak trees, but I don't see any when I look at the tree.
But they annoy the windshields and me, and always drop after the pollen has subsided.
Blowing piles of them off the driveway and cars, they roll up and cling to each other like rolls of hay but are the color of pinestraw.
There's your gardenological report from Birmingham, and I need more coffee.

A few years ago I also witnessed an osprey in action on a golf course. We were standing on the tee of a par 3 waiting for the green to clear and watching an osprey circle high above us. It was one of those par 3s that are all pond from the tee to the green. As we watched him, he folded up his wings and started a dive bomb to the pond. A few feet above the pond he extended his wings and flipped around, going into the pond feet first. Immediately he started to flap like mad and rose out of the pond with a foot+ gold fish in his talons. He circled, slowly gaining altitude until he was above the treeline and then departed with his prize. None of us had ever seen a fish in that pond but apparently that osprey had.

Now, how exactly do you get the coffee and leftover brownies?

Morning all! It looks like it will be another bright sunny day. 8C right now, the high will get to 15C.

Yesterday was so nice I went for a walk around the Harbour at lunch and came across this fine fellow

Hopefully Obo is just taking a well deserved break and will return fresh and humourous as ever.

Working from home today as my wife has a neurologist appointment later this afternoon. I'm kind of hoping they'll dumb her down a bit so I can try and keep up. Had a couple interesting things bounce across my desk at the end of the day yesterday so it will be interesting to see what they're all about.

Good morning, 11 C high 15 C , Mostly Cloudy, clearing up mid day. Thanks for Coffee, not sure what is on today's agenda, all depends on how my stomach feels,yes it has been bothering me again or is that still bothering me. Should take out the recycling and garbage can to the street.
Funny thing happened while reading the thread, Google maps open up , after reading Sadlsor's posting, One day 16 hours from my place to his, looking like a awesome Ride. Some day. Okay Y'all have a good day,G
 
Morning Mac & All from mostly sunny, Southern Utah!

Currently it is 61F, up from 42F and heading for 71F. Our weather reports are changing by the hour! Now the Weather guessers are saying we could get rain today. And see winds from the SW @ 9 to 16. But as always, I'll believe it when it hits the ground! :well1:

@motomac : Mac, great news for Carole. Is she doing better with the knee?

Chris and I made a trip to Home Depot yesterday. Nothing like adding $300 worth of more projects to my list! :rolleyes:

Boiled eggs, bacon, toast & OJ to start the morning. Pepsi(s), saved for later.
