Tuesday coffee and weather, 17 December

pretty interesting stuff. Including some drafting, which I have a bit of a love hate relationship with; hate the blank page, love the creativity once I get started.

As with most other things that require manual skill, I'm rubbish with drafting but I enjoy it none the less. Waaaaaaaayyyy back when I was in high school I took, among other things, the "Introduction to Shop" class, which included one quarter each of woods, metals, electronics, and drafting. Ever since then I've enjoyed the process of dirtying up paper with rulers, triangles, pencils, pens, and markers.

A few years ago I even went out on eBay and found/bought an old-school "drafting machine"- the sort of gizmo that has two scales (rulers, not weighing devices) at 90 degree angles, a rotatable head, and two arms linked at an elbow so the whole assembly can be moved around over the paper. I've used it many times since, drawing plans for various woodworking projects, my fantasy probably-never-to-be-built free-standing workshop, and a few other miscellaneous items.

I also got my insurance bill on the house and cars. Up over $760 a year!

WOW, that's a hefty boost. I guess you're helping subsidize their payouts to those affected by wildfires, floods, hurricanes and other environmental disasters.

It is a sad subject here in SW Florida!
We were without insurance here for the first of our stay last year!
Not that we couldn’t afford it, it wasn’t available until into the new year!
When it did come available, they were very pricy!
It isn’t any better after being hit twice last year!
There isn’t any coverage for a named storm & flood insurance is extra!

Good coffee, Keith, and thanks for it. Better than half a chance of rain today, breaking 70° "thay" say. It sure looks like clear skies from where I sit, but I don't have radar eyes, so it will be later if it happens.

Hmm. That sounds like me.

The porch is lit, the holly branches still lie about the sidewalk, but I raked them to the edge of the walkway so I don't have to wade through knee-deep pricklies.

Much to do at work, we're cleaning up some projects while David is doing the two-daughters-graduation tour.

If best get to it, will check in later.

Huh? How can insurance, a contract agreement between two parties, be "unavailable"??? It's not like a physical commodity that may have limited quantities or supply chain and distribution issues.

We had to wait until a company started taking new policies!!
Too much hurricane damage in this area!
I’d never heard of it before either!!
Very expensive insurance now!
If you want flood insurance it’s as much or more again.
There is little or no coverage for a named storm without the flood insurance!

There should be two sections to the policy; 1. The coverage agreement, i.e., the part that says this is what we will cover and 2. The Exclusions - what they will not cover or where the coverage agreement is amended. Just to make things super easy, there can also be exceptions that amend the exclusions.

Easiest way is to think of it like a pie. The whole pie is what is covered. The exclusions are like removing a piece of pie. The exceptions put a slice of that piece of pie back in the pie.

Thanks Ted!
I’ll check it out!

Don't forget that the pie is covered, but the plate it's in and the whipped topping are likely not. Nor is if you get sick from eating said pie.

Buy, Buy, Miss American..
