Hello guy and gals. I am faced with a issue that has been bothering me now for 9 months. weather to sell my bike or turn it into a trike. I can no longer pick up the St1300 due to my back issues. I have sold all the spare parts and now the bike is sitting here and the season is approaching and I want to ride. I know I should not be riding a two wheel bike any more after type of operation I had so turning the bike into a trike is the next best thing. I don't want a wing or a Harley .I love me st and this is the only way I van keep it. Does any one have any information on a conversion for the st1300..Thanks...

Hanigan makes a sidecar that has been used on ST1300s. There are lots of others: Link to Images

I'd go with a sidecar since I think they're more "motorcycle" than a trike. My $.02

Just my opinion, and people have been telling me for years it is worthless. Triking an ST would be a mistake. It would lose all the characteristics of a SPORT tourer and would just become a tourer. Add to that the cost of engineering a safe trike kit to fit the bike as it would basically be a one off so you are paying for the R&D. The benefit of going to the goldwing trike is the engineering and R&D are already well paid for. And they are proven to be functional and safe.

I would hate to see you invest a lot of money and time trying to make something functional and end up with an unsaleable Frankenstein in the end. Maybe look at the Can-am reverse trikes?

Agreed, just get an engineered trike, maybe a Spyder that's more like a 'motorcycle' yet still has the stability you're looking for.

+1 Depending on the severity of your back issues, the lack of reverse for one thing might be harder on you than 2 wheels, same with sidecar...they work you pretty good....I'd look at one of the "leaner"trikes like the Can Am which in my mind would be more like riding a motorcycle....good luck on your quest and on your health........ff

Do whatever make sense for you. Mr. Hannigan (a swell feller that I've ridden with and an incredible rider also) would be the man to talk to. IIRC, he does trikes, sidecars and some other interesting options. Most important, he understands riding. I've often thought I'd enjoy a sidecar more than a trike, but then that's just me. I remember Gene, a friend of mine had his ST1100 'sidecarred' and took it all the way to Alaska with a friend. The main thing is to be able to keep your head in the wind however you decide to do it and on whatever you decide to ride! :D

I have a good friend that rides a lot on 2 wheels but also has a rig with a sidecar .

He likes it almost as much as his 2 wheelers.

If you'd like to talk to him, lmk and I'll put you in touch.

Well after talking with Jeff he is a conversion trike dealer here in NJ, He has a few for sale..I really wanted to keep my st. I love the bike .I just thing the wing is ugly and a Harley is worse...so to keep cost down I see I may have to look at a wing....Not liking this transition at all. Over the years I really did a number on my back.7 herniated discs and lots of arthritis ....so being tall does not help either...guys thanks a lot ill be heading to the dealer on Saturday to trade the st1300....

I just saw a beautiful 'Wing trike at RoadRider Accessories in San Jose CA. But it was huge. Massive.

Since you don't like the looks of a 'Wing have you considered a Can-Am Spyder? I don't know any of the specs and the dual wheels forward may put you off but I like the looks. And they're physically a lot smaller.

When the time comes that I can't hold my ST up something like a Piaggio might be my alternative. http://www.piaggio.com/piaggio/INT/en/MP3.html#main . At 500cc it's more scooter than trike so long distance is probably out. But I'll look at something along that line because it leans. My distances would be shorter but it's closer to riding a motorcycle than a typical trike.

I was hoping there was a trike for the 13 because the like the sporty look of the 13 verses the wing. I know they look alike. We will see what they can do for me in a week. The snow and cold weather will determine when I can get to the dealer...In south jersey...

Have you considered one of the Voyager conversion kits? From what I can tell, they retain the motorcycle's rear wheel and add custom-designed "outriggers" on each side. Supposedly it's easily reversible back to the original m/c configuration in a matter of minutes, but I'd have to see that to believe it. It does appear to have some advantages over a conventional conversion, cost being a significant advantage. It should make it easier to sell the ST if/when that time comes. They do make kits for the ST1300, too (see attachment). It looks intriguing to me.

Guys thank you I talked to the rep from voyager and the kit is okay. if you plan to sell the bike or don't have the funds for a full conversion with reverse like on a wing then it does not make any sense with my back . Some mentioned the reverse gear and that is big so I am going to sell the st or trade it in..so guys thanks. on another note guys please don't hurt yourself lifting any thing heavy. please get help. I ruptured 7 discs and surgery sucks for the first two months...so just be careful. thanks guys..

I stopped by a Can-am dealer today and they are pretty cool. ill stop by a trike dealer in south jersey this Saturday to see what they offer.....may have to do a wing only because I am 6ft 6inches and a 3 wheel scooter just cant cut it..
