I'd call myself a tool addict too; if a tool will save me time and aggravation and it will cost less than the labor to have the project done at the shop its a no brainer for me to buy the tool. Nearly $15k is unjustifiable for most DIY mechanics but there are plenty of pros that pay that for a toolbox. This one is in the price range you were thinking.

At a first glance I thought it could be very simple to achieve this....
Since anybody will expand to fill all available space with tools, toys, and junk, reworking this ladder would be a priority. You might be right, but I'd envisioned making new brackets with your suggested pins. All this is moot, of course, since I have no plans to get one. @tonythecarguy is much more disciplined than I am, and I'd bet his work area is spotless and every tool goes back to its appointed place. I'd speculate he has never lost a 10 mm socket, but I'm not going to project that he is superman.

Tony - did you price the Human Hoist at $15K? Methinks the padding is too thick anyway. Thin it down and that should cut some $$$ off the price

Andrew's comment did make me think I will be simply disassembling the top pad to make it more compact. I don't use it that frequently so needing to re-assemble next time I need it will be just fine. It's only 6 bolts. I wouldn't call it spotless (tidy maybe) but the only time I lose tools is when I let other people use them, most recently it was a no longer available made in the USA 10mm combination wrench.

The Human Hoist pricing is beyond anything I can even begin to consider, but they have a fun video.

These toys come in all shapes and sizes:

Is it just me or does this look quite precarious? I don't want to be laying down, 75" off the ground, reefing on a bolt supported by a single (Assumed) 1.5" square tube. I'm sure it's strong enough but there is a question of rigidity and "tippyness".

Ever go up in one of those man lifts? They sway enough to bring on motion sickness. Years ago I rented one of those telescoping boom lifts - 4 wheeled machine w/ a diesel motor and you could drive it from controls aloft. I pulled it to the edge of my driveway and swung the arm to one side. Two of the machine's wheels were off the drive and slightly lower on the grass. I was about 12' up, in the middle of a Pin Oak pruning at the extreme extension when I noticed the branches were slowly moving up out of my reach! The machine was tipping over! I grabbed a 4" branch and pulled up and the machine stabilized. I called to my wife (who was supervising) and asked her to climb up on the side of the machine that was lifting off the driveway. Then I retracted the boom.

PM: I have to guess that having two wheels about 4" lower than the opposite side, and turning the turret with the boom 90º to the longitudinal axis of the machine was outside the range of stability at full extension. At the time, my weight with all the tools I had aboard would not have hit 175#, and I think the platform was rated for two workers (300#?). There was no indication that I was exceeding the design envelope for safety until the machine started to tilt. Then, a flashing red light on the base unit let me know it was too late.
