Ay up, get out of your pyjamas and taste the Italian Dark Roast. On second thoughts put your PJ's back on, no one wants a sausage fest for breakfast.
36 to 51, sun and just a little wind. It's officially declared to be blummin lovely. The daffodils are arising from their slumber. Is it spring?
:run1:.
Yesterdays trip to source a new pair of riding troosers for yours truly wasn't completely successful. No troosers but I did find cheesecake and coffee. Pffffffftttttt.
Today will see a cupboard filling trip to Alnwick upon the Aln which doesn't compete too well with bobbin up and down in a boat in the Caribbean. Another word that divides great nations.
Av a gud un and remember, they're pyjamas! Pffffffftttttt.
Upt.
On yes, warm Panettone is just out of the oven, it's good.

"I have measured out my life with coffee spoons."

Wearing boxers as PJ's, no way to avoid named "exposure"... :sneaky:

So I quickly put on my sweatpants, because...

Anyhoo...

-1/+3°C, not as dark anymore, kinda white overcast, hence no sunrise to observe, damp, wet roads, no precipitation, municipal vehicles with amber strobes crawling around like roaches maintaining their SHIFT-SALT-DELETE tasks, wondering where they'd been hiding out yesterday though...

When it comes to riding gear, I'd opt for GoreTex...
But I've witnessed some obscene prices in the past... piracy! Total ripoff!
And the current jacket models lack many essentials, like two(!) inside pockets (passport/wallet on one, phone on the other side), adjustable sleeve ends (glove cuffs go inside(!) the sleeves)...
Seems my trusty Dainese Stradon jacket will see another season... it features mentioned above, and then some, like wrist gaiters, removable storm collar...

have a good one!

Yes, Waterproof is the goal, which means Waterproof Leathers or Textiles, although there is Waterproof Denim out there also, but I spose that's just textile by another name.
I couldn't find any laminated textiles that didn't look like clown trousers, so I might have to explore the Leather Trooser route and see how many dead ends are in that direction. Pffffffftttttt.
I would buy Oxford Mondials to match my very nice Mondial jacket, they're not expensive but so baggy there's no point in the armour. I spose I could eat more cheesecake.
Once you've experienced laminated goretex everything else is, meh.

Well, waterproof doesn't equal breathable...
Once I incidentally ended up with cheaper D-Dry pants... couldn't bear them, felt soaked like wearing a garbage bag, had to take them off, continued with plain denims instead...
I've worn leather troosers for about 40 years, this last pair are probably around 25 years old and have just gone a bit loose and some stitching has been renewed. They're tired, but aren't we all.
The majority of textiles are loose in the legs, I just can't see the point. They're going to offer little impact protection if I should ever need it. Leather just keeps the armour where it should be.
Weise Hydra may be the answer but I'm buggered if I can find a pair to try on. I can't see the downside of Leather against Textile if they both use drop linings. The holy grail would be snug laminated goretex.
It's elusive at the moment.
On the note of breathable, I never bother with waterproofs over the Leathers, I'm not a fan of boil in the bag.

Philosophy...
My Dainese stitches have certified protectors and they don't "mover around" either...
Leathers laminated with GoreTex are high priced... see Beemer suits... they take an arm, a leg and your firstborn for them...

Good morning everyone

Thanks for the coffee and panettone Ray. I'm making do with the re-warmed leftovers from yesterday's pot, at least to start with. Plenty of added cream reduces the battery acid effect, to a tolerable level.

get out of your pyjamas pajamas

FTFY. Why? It's not even close to midafternoon yet.

On second thoughts put your PJ's back on,

Okay, thanks.

IT's freezing cold outside, noticeably less so in the office this morning thanks to the plastic window film installed yesterday. Outside, it's 14°F but feels like 13- not much wind to speak of. "Mostly clear" is correct as reported: I could see a few scattered clouds drifting past the moon, and a few stars as well, when I rolled the bins to the curb a few minutes ago. The high will be 32, with chances of light rain or sn.. sn.., sn.. that white crap.

I'll have to get out of my sleepwear by 0700 in order to have enough time to shower and dress and travel to a doctor that specializes in travel-oriented medications and vaccinations. Mrs. Fun has suddenly realized (decided) that we need to get protected against various tropical diseases (typhoid, malaria, hepatitis in all of its alphabetic variants, trench foot, jungle rot, etc.) before we leave. My primary care physician either doesn't do those jabs or couldn't work me in- I dunno which- so I've been referred to this other provider. The appointment is at 0800.

After all of that, I'm due to meet an old friend for lunch around 1300 hours. If I get done and back home in time, there's an online uke lesson for me. If I don't get to it live, there's a recorded version available later.

In between all of that, laundry. Mrs. Fun began packing yesterday; she's concerned about the ever-shrinking luggage size and weight limits imposed by the airlines and wants to be certain she won't get caught out. As we don't leave until Tuesday evening, I'll pack Monday, probably.

Stay safe and well everyone and tell your dear ones you love them.

Morning all, and thanks for the coffee and sausages Ray.

In my life, I never sausage a thing!

-11C here, with some flurries. Headed to a sunny -7 later on.

And for the record, day pahjamahs are very different from night pahjamahs. And if it's flannel the Mrs. has on, well that's good old Canadian lingerie.

Hope everyone has a great day an remember: If you eat too many sausages, you'll be a pig.

Obo.

Morning all and thanks for Dark Roast Ray. All this talk of riding gear and textiles, leather so early in the morning? Least I forget sausage?
Back to the weather 20s and 30s here, a temporary heat wave. Dusting of snow last night. Me and my dark roast will only look at the bikes today, roads too wet and salty to ride. Having breaks with my farmer neighbor today. Always a treat.

Have a great one everybody and remember to be safe out there.

Thx Ray!
Leather it is.
And sausages.

8˚c/46f in the midst of january..?
Calm, grey.

Been for a walk.
Mrs Stu was complaining over the fishcake smell in the garage.
So I put the motorbike outside, and turned on the ozonegenerator inside.
Now it smells like the garden of Eden.

Now to cook.

Have a good one!
Stu

Grey, brown and green uphill today, oh yes and wet.

Good morning all!
Thanks for the start Ray! We appreciate your efforts!

It could possibly be tidied up a wee bit!
With all these “Free Willie” type discussions, one might have questions… :well1:

We’re almost to our last stop (Puerto Plata), so I’d best get a move on. We haven’t booked anything and the plan is to probe the dock shopping area!
Currently 66, 82F for the high.
Breakfast is waiting!
Check in later!

Good morning, all, and thank you kindly, Ray, for the coffee and panettone! Much obliged. I could have done without the visual imagery, though. Gag me with a spoon!

Our numbers today will range from the current -8°C/18°F (windchill -13°C/9°F) to a high of -6°C/21°F with a feels-like of -10°C/14°F. Conditions will vary between "cloudy with sunny breaks," "a mix of sun and clouds" and "mainly cloudy," though I couldn't for the life of me tell you what the difference between them is. There will also be some scattered flurries thrown in for good measure this morning.

Other than that, there's nothing very exciting on the agenda, except work. And that is anything but exciting! Everyone have a great day, stay safe and go safely.

Patty

Ok, let's straighten this sausage thing out....

It's really all about bacon. Bacon's where it's at.

You don't get sausage on your ceasar salad, you don't get a SLT (sausage lettuce tomato) sandwich, you don't get a sauage cheeseburger, nor is the default breakfast combos sausage 'n egg.

It's bacon.

How large is the sausage collection at your grocery store, vs that of bacon, hmmm?

Get with the wave.

Mmmmmm.

Mornin’ y’all. Thanks for the coffee, Ray.

21/50 and plenty of sun. Today is shopping day. I’m trying to stock up for the 3 weeks, or so, that I won’t be driving. If I don’t run out of coffee or dog biscuits, I’ll be fine.

I guess I’ll check on the neighbors, today. I can’t remember the last time I’ve seen them out. Their cars haven’t moved in a week, but lights go on and off. Probably flu or norovirus. I’ll give them a call and then disinfect my phone.

Be safe

John

I’m thinking this sausage thing has gotten out of hand…
We even had Patty gagging…
I had to do it…

This literally sounded like us last summer prepping for our overseas cruise. She was stressing over the airline's (Iceland Air) ever-shrinking luggage requirements (she was using a tape measure!) and what to pack for the weather in EVERY city we were visiting (she ended up being very wrong...huh). Me? I packed the night before, made sure I had extra room for souvenirs (eh, partly bc I left out a bunch of shirts...went 11 days with 3 shirts!) and was stress-free. Hope your trip is just as well.

18/-8 down in the great icelands of SoMD when I shuffled into the kitchen for my morning joe (thank you!). Didn't make it to the office yesterday, so gotta be quick to get out the door today. Take care y'all!
