"Electricity too cheap to meter". Could have been done, could still be done, nuclear fuel is cheap. Nuclear power could be very cheap (compared to fossil) except for all the rules and regulations and stuff. From the link below:

In my opinion nuclear power is the safest way to produce electricity. It's is expensive to build these power plants because of all the issues the owners have to go through to build the plant. Not "issues" not design problems.
Nuclear power plants are the same as fossil power plants expect for the fuel. And yes there is waste disposal not much but still some. Foissle fuel plants have waster disposal issues as well.
The main thing that stands in the way of nuclear power plants dotting the landscape instead of fossil plants are the "anti-nukes".
