Terry 'ACL' Hammond (11/19/2010)

Re: Terry 'ACL' Remembered

It was great to ride in honor of Terry with those of you that made it to the service. I was on the 05 red and black KLR. We were all very blessed to have known him.

John "Jailor8" Hammond

Thanks John, I was very much an honor to be in the procession to the farm with Terry.

Terry became like a brother to me in a matter of hours after meeting him.
I rolled into my first Moonshine this past April with a burned valve on my ST1100. Burned it on the second day of my ride to Belize about two hours East of Moonshine, IL.
Figured my trip was over and I'd have to tow the bike home or sell it.
George and I prearranged our Belize ride rendezvous at Moonshine but we are derailed with a major engine failure.

George comes up with the idea to "...we'll just change the engine" without an engine or a place to work. George is from Arizona and I'm from NYC so neither of us are near homebase.

Terry Hammond, hearing of our plight, put his hand on my shoulder and looked me in the eyes as he stated with a sincerity that crystallized the space between us..."...My house is your house and my shop is your shop for as long as it takes...Thank you for the privilege* of hosting this...moonlaunch of a ride to Belize out of my garage"

I was made to feel as though I was doing him the favor.

"What a guy" doesn't begin to tell his story. This guy was simply hard wired as an easy going fun loving, generous, funny, yet sincere kid stuck in a man suit. If I were to be like him, I would need a whole new wiring harness,,, and trust me I would do it if I could.

Carole, Jeff, Danny, George thank you for the pictures and the video. I have cried like a child. I have no words for my sorrow. I will do my best to celebrate life every day as he had done.

Somehow, after reading the posts, seeing the pictures and listening to Tim reciting Terry's poem, my screen has gotten blurry. Medicine Bear was the first guy I meet via the forum, so this hit doubly hard. But, I'm looking forward to riding with them both someday.

What a class act. :bow1:

Rest in Peace, and thanks for the memories!

Lynn

I'm gutted for all you folks that have had the pleasure to met Terry in real life. Prayers for Terry, his family and all you folk that are hurting.

:(

Adding my belated condolences (?). Only the good die young, as they say. What a shame.

How can one person have such an impact on a board, a "sport," so many people? I think it was the honest life he lived and the joy he had in living it - joy that he was happy to pour out on anyone and everyone he could.

He had a million postings (and I may not be exaggerating), but one I recall was about how he got his dog down in Texas. Short story was that within a few minutes, the farmer selling the dog saw Terry for who he was, and instead of being someone selling a dog to a stranger, became his "brother" just as so many of you have expressed, and "gave" him the dog for the "local farmer price."

We'd all do the world a lot of good if we just tried to be a bit more like Terry.

+ 1........AMEN!!!

I really, really, really want to be like Terry when I grow up... But at only 50 years old, I find that I'm not really ready to grow up just yet... I guess I'll just have to TRY to be like Terry... :D

This is very difficult news to say the least.

Terry was my brother although neither of our Mothers knew anything about it.

Although we never met in person we shared some funny stories and kooky laughs.

When I die I hope that Medicine Bear, Putt, ACL & SVL-1300 have one more spot for me .... in the lead of course.

I had difficulty finding copies of Rider. I contacted the Editor Mark Tuttle, and he was extremely helpful and volunteered to send me a PDF file of the article. He has graciously given me permission to share it with you. Which I will do as soon as I receive it.

For those that would like a "real" copy, you can buy a copy through these addresses: rdrcustserv@cdsfulfillment.com, or write to Rider, P.O. Box 5860, Harlan,

Thanks for doing that Tim. Much appreciated.

Curt,
I have chased down the tape that had Terry's singing of the song and attempting to make CD copies. And then Kevin on the MTF is going to try to make a copy that we can post a link to so everyone can hear what we heard at the service.

Sounds good. No pun. :)

Thanks again Tim.

Thanks, Tim, for contacting Mark.

Thanks also to Mark for that kind offer.
(Mark asked me for my OK, which shows he respects writers, and now he's giving it away free, which shows he respects motorcyclists.)

EDIT: Mark just sent me the story. It's posted here.

Re: Terry 'ACL' Remembered

I'm mixed on this one. I reckon I'll go to the store and purchase a copy anyway. Would be nice for Rider & Co. to see a jump in sales due to Terry and for Scott's efforts.

Thanks Tim Y!

Thanks Bones, I added the link to the 1st post in this thread as well.

Thanks Tim Y!

I have a subscription coming myself based on their efforts.
