Terry 'ACL' Hammond (11/19/2010)

Re: Terry 'ACL' Remembered

I often think of the time when he jumped inside that ice cream truck for the photo op, after buying EVERYONE an ice cream at NatSToc.

:bow1: What a guy!

Stunned. I didn't know him personally be we spoke through PMs and posts. My numbness pales when compared to those who knew him best.

I'm sure he would want us all to be a little closer to each other and not take our friendships for granted. Live every day and love all we can. Life is too short. Godspeed Terry, you made us all better by your presence.

I don't know which phase of grief I'm in yet but.... THERE ARE PLENTY OF OTHER JERKS ON THIS EARTH WE COULD DO WITHOUT!!!!! WHY DID IT HAVE TO BE TERRY!!!!! UGH!!! DOUBLE AND TRIPLE UGH!!!!!

I vote for this picture to be on the 2011 MLR t-shirts.

I'm still in a fog too, I keep hoping that Terry will "run out of gas" on his way to heaven and come back to us.

I'm also picturing a bumper sticker that will fit below the plate that reads-
"I get it"-ACL

so often you hear people say, I'm only one person, what can I do? Terry showed us all what one person can do. through Terry, thousands of lives have been touched, from each rider who attended an event to the "charities" that benefited financially from the activities of the MLR. I think we are very fortunate that the people here also have the pay it forward attitude. I seriously doubt that there are many other places like this place that exist where we have so many friends...that we just haven't had the pleasure of meeting yet!

A person enters our life for a reason, for a season, or for a lifetime. Terry will forever be with us...hopefully reminding us to not run out of gas!!!:D

Never got to meet Terry in person. I wanted to attend MLR this spring but was just too darned busy to get away.

Terry's posts were always great to read. You couldn't not walk away from the computer without a smile on your face.

Like others have said, he had a way of making you feel like you knew him even if you didn't meet face to face.

I cried last night when I read through this thread. I thought about his friends and family and the pain they must be going through. If I could take that away, I would in a second!

Rest in Peace, Terry. You will be missed!

A very bitter pill to swallow.
Like many here, I've never met Terry, however it's obvious in a bittersweet way from this thread and his posts that he was a very big-hearted guy.
May we all follow his example in just being "a friend". And may we polish our sense of humour, as did he.
I extend my sincere condolences to his family; may the Lord give you comfort.

Re: Terry 'ACL' Remembered

Terry" story, as he was just there, telling stories, making ice cream, providing sleeping space and shop space, sharing his life and enthusiasm and LIFE! Just like we all do (or should do.) He will be sorely missed.

Like it was yesterday,, in the thick of the back window story, here the Largest Black man he had ever seen pointing at the back window of his Linclon that he (Terry)had had just gone through!!

I know I have posted this image before ... But a little background ... My daughter Aeryn, aka LittleSTcatt, at the time this photo was taken did not generally warm up to new people quickly. To get a smile from her then, if you weren't immediate family was unheard of, let alone her allowing someone 'unknown' hold her. Then, after not so patiently waiting through the Moonshine line, and waiting as her parents downed a moonburger, she was thrust into the hands of some strange person standing on a porch.

She instantly warmed to him, and pulled the 50/50 ticket with no real prompting ... Hence the reason he was adopted as 'Unca Terry' ...

I look forward to the day I get to explain this story to her, and wish that he would be able to tell it to her himself ...

I was just gonna ask if anyone had this picture handy...

Aeryn's Unca Terry...

Makes him Adam's brother...

Makes him my son...

...and I do feel as if I've lost another one.

Got the call from BygDawg yesterday evening as I was motoring calmly up I-44 in Missouri on my way to Chi-Land. Not a care in the world, thinking I might give Terry a call next week to see if we could hook up as I headed down to Indiana to see mom 'n sis.

Shocked and dismayed.

Rest in peace, Terry and say hi to Putt 'n Derek 'n Charlie for all the rest of us. You will be sorely missed on this side of the coil.

Adam, would you be interested in creating a design of a monkey serving ice cream? I would love to put it on a tee shirt?

Terry made me most welcome and comfortable and made sure I didn't take things too seriously in here. I will miss his presence very much. Thoughts to everyone and espescially to Terry's family.

Very sad.

Any plans for a ride to the funeral, this would be a great send off from the members.

"Though I never met him in person..." is a very common comment thru this thread. What better tribute to a person than to say he was a positive influence even to those whom he'd never met...

Especially touched by humorous anecdotes throughout, collectively we can keep his jocularity alive. Ironic to think of all he survived by bike, yet to give it up so peacefully at the end.

We have fur sur lost one of the good ones, but we can all contribute to keeping his memory alive by following the strong example he gave us. If the whole world were to get along as we do, it would indeed be "peace on earth."

Most heartfelt-condolences to Cindy and family, of which we all are members. No jokes from me but miles of smiles as we all remember our friend, my other son.

(Landon, thanks for the reminder about our ride together across the rocky regions of TN and KY a couple years ago. Wish it were happening NOW!)

A trip to moonshine was on my list If I ever make it now it will not be the same. Like many others have said never met the man but will truly miss. My sympathy for the family

Totally in shock. I was with Danny Digiamo when we visited Terry on September 15, 2010 and he took us in like brothers and we spent the night at the farm. Terry gave us onboard instructions on the combine, and we harvested corn that night. It was the highlight of my trip! Sorry WeSToc. Stayed up late listening to his stories until my jaws were sore from laughing. What a great guy! My deepest condolences to TLC and family.

RIP Terry

Re: Terry 'ACL' Remembered

I met Terry at the Jackpine Savage run in Anamosa, Iowa. He organized the event and I am not sure why so far from his home, but it was about the ride that mattered, not where. At the end of Saturday's activities he asked if anyone would like to go over and have some pie. He also added that if he was not allowed to buy that piece of pie, stay at the motel, the treat was his. I was good with this and so were others. Just so happened I sat across from Terry when he asked what I did. Told him I was a machinist at a small shop. His eyes lit up like I was a rocket scientist. Can you make things? Dah, yes. I have a product for you. What product? A screw for the Zumo that does not need that special screw driver. Sure I can do that, now what does it look like? He described it and said I could sell a hundred of them. Now I knew he was nuts, but hey it came from Terry, so it must be true. I looked at the factory screw and figured I could make something. Lets see, 100 screws at $5 almost pays for a Zumo, so I ordered one based on my friend. Made some prototypes and sent them to Terry for his stamp of approval. He posted what I was up to and before I had any made I had at least 20 sold. Terry hawked these screws on several sites because he wanted to. That idea has lead to many sales and many happy Zumo owners. The screw I offer, is really due to our friend Terry "ACL" Hammond. Thank you Terry for your friendship and guidance in what we do.

I miss you and am glad you came into my life.

Kevin

I only knew Terry through his writings on this site. The bantering back and forth with members here usually left me laughing. The members of this site will carry Terry's memory with us as we attend different functions and talk about the friend who made us all laugh at one time or another.
Condolences to his family.

Ya know, Kevin, I don't have a Zumo but I want one of those screws. I'll drill a hole in it and put it on the chain with my MoonShine name tag.

I have two sets of his "Turn Signal Thingies".

Humorous AND creative...

ACL, you are missed.
