Terry 'ACL' Hammond (11/19/2010)

RIP Terry.

I did not have the honor of meeting him.
The outpouring of Love from his friends in this online community is a testament to the Man and the life he lived.

My heartfelt condolences to Terry's Family and everyone else who knew and loved him.​

I was also told he was taking one of his tractors from the farm to the house in Casey when it happened. It appears when it happened it was very quick.

Jody has a paypal account to use and he'll give that to Cindy/family later on when things settle down some - he will also get some flowers from the donations, he won't spend much so the remainder goes to the family.

thats so hard to take. what a loss. i always wanted to meet him. very sad. condolences to his family and friends everywhere.
 
I, as the rest of you am totally shocked! I sat up until 2 AM last night reading this thread and still can't believe it. I was fortunate to meet Terry at a few Moonshine runs and he came to where I work part time at Niehaus Cycles a couple times. I was supposed to do the Post Moonshine run last week, but ended up having to fill in for one of the real salesmen last Saturday, so missed the chance for one last visit with him.

Terry had asked me to give him first chance at buying my 08 ST1300A if I got ready to sell it and I promised him I would. Turns out though, that we both decided to order Super Tenere's, so the ST13 will go to someone else. Perhaps Terry is getting a chance to ride a Super10 right now instead of having to wait til May.

Godspeed, my friend. You made the world a better place.

Every so often in life you meet people who are instantly family to you. Not just a friend, but family. There is a connection, and familiarity that means you would do anything you could for this individual, and you just know they would do the same. I have had the good fortune of meeting quite a few people like this in my. Terry is one of these people for me ...

I have a feeling though, for Terry, everyone was family ... And that is how he could make everyone feel so special.

With this in mind, I have a thought ... If everyone was a member of Terry's family, then that means we are all family also ... And should treat each other as such (which I think most of us on this board already do)... Regardless of what motorcycle we ride, and what type of riding gear we wear, or don't wear, we are all family thanks to Terry. That would, I think, make Terry happy ...

Terry "ACL" Hammond clearly a legend in his own time.

I have only recently become involved socially with STOC. So many wonderful people. I was planning to attend the next Moonshine.

Terry will remain alive in all who he touched.

Prayers to the family and all who knew him.

I didn't know him personally, but knew him from the forum and knew he was a big part of ST-Owners.com! From all his friends posting he must of been a BIG GUY! A good man! Sorely, sorely missed! My best wishes and deepest sympathies to his friends and family for their immense loss...
 
Fair winds and following seas Terry. I will miss you and your wonderful humor and thoughtful humanity! The world is a slightly smaller place now.
 
I never met the guy, what with me being Welsh, (British), and living in Wales and it is thanks to this great forum that I came into "contact" with him. And that's a shame, because he had a great sense of humour and he was an authority in his own right on ST1300s and I'm sure he would be great company over a few beers.

Go well and ride safely in the great beyond my friend and please take care of those wonderful ice cream serving monkeys where ever they may be.

My condolences to his family and friends and to those who knew him better than I.

This was a poem that ACL wrote and posted on here less than a week ago as his tribute to Medicine Bear who passed away recently. I thought it would be fitting for it to be a tribute to the man who wrote it too.........

Enjoying the Curves of the Blue Ridge Parkway’s Smoky Beauty as the fog rolls into itself…

Just know where ever you are they Too,,, are Riding Along With the Wind…

Our lives are just as long as a Blink,,, in the Big Cosmic Time-line Thing…

We all can strive that we make a difference in others Lives and that we bring Happiness to them…

So when our time is over,,, and we are not riding anymore…

We all can just hope to be carried along,,, to again,,, Ride along with the Wind...

I am so glad that I could give Terry a personal tour of the Big Horns... we met in Buffalo, WY and rode Ten Sleep pass. We had a 2 hour lunch in Ten Sleep. What a nice guy.

I remember the first time I met Terry.

It was 2 years ago at NatSTOC. It was Saturday and those of us that showed up Friday had gone for a ride Saturday morning.

Saturday afternoon and most the riding for the day was done and, everybody was in various groups. Quite a few new people had shown up during the day while I was out riding.

I was making my way to different groups to put a face to a name. One of the people I really wanted to meet was this ACL guy. His posts always made me smile. I had read & heard that ACL was very busy at the farm that time of year and was probably not going to make it to NatSTOC. Later, I heard he was really, really, really going to try and make it.

I wondered over to a group that I noticed Joe and, some other people I did not know was in. I kinda squeezed in beside this big guy and was enjoying the conversation. At one point, I figured either Joe or some of the others in this group might know if ACL was able to make it. I spoke up and asked if anybody knew if ACL made it. Joe said "yea, he's here somewhere" Others chimed in that "yes, he's around here somewhere"

I told the group I was really hoping to meet him. Well, the big lug standing next to me turns and holds his hand out to shake mine and says, "Hi, I'm ACL." :crackup

The big paloka kept a straight face the whole time everyone was playing with me.

I'm glad I finally got to meet Terry and, kick tars and tell lies with him.

Good times indeed.
