Terry 'ACL' Hammond (11/19/2010)

I feel just sick. I'm new here but I sure laughed at Terry's posts.
Please Lord, help Terry's family in this time of loss.

My most sincere and deepest condolences to the Hammond family.

Ironically Terry was a witness for my BBG finish at PuttSTOC in Moab this summer.

The two of them will be forever intertwined in my mind.
Michael

What can I say? What can anyone say that adequately describes the feeling of such a great loss.......

I first met Terry at Moonshine in 2007. I attended again this year and enjoyed a Moonburger with him the Thursday before the event.

I'm speechless and in shock.

Godspeed Terry......

Wow, can't believe this, especially because I was just at his place last weekend and he was so alive, I have probably only spent a total of about half an hour talking alone with Terry and I considered him a best friend. I can feel tears coming on, what a loss to his family and our riding community.

I add my condolences to the others sent to Terry's family.
I just re read all the threads Terry and myself posted to.
Theres a common theme, Terry's humour and understanding. I had plenty of smiles with Terry.
I'm going to miss him.
RIP Terry mate.

Oh, Man... I just checked in to read what's going on... and read this... I've met Terry a couple of times, and have made the MLR the first "official ride" of the season. He greeted all of us with such zeal and enthusiasm, and kindheartedness... That's the way I liked to begin the season on such an uplifting note. He made all of us feel special, and soooo welcomed... Oh Man... What a loss to us here on earth... I guess the good Lord needed a special "Border Colie" in heaven...

Re: Terry 'ACL' Remembered

I remembered last night that when I was a newbie on this board, I saw a couple of Terry's posts and thought he must be a younger mischevious type, entertaining for sure. The name, Austin City Limits was familiar to me, the name of a show which aired on PBS and featured musicians, mostly folk or new country music from budding musicians who had made a bit of a name for themselves but weren't necessarily famous (yet). I used to really enjoy that occasionally, and I never did ask him if that's where he got his name, but I suspect so. He did love his music.

While I never met Terry I, as well anyone who has spent any time on ST-Owners, felt like I knew him. He seemed to be the laugh of the party but you could tell he was a very caring, generous and hard working person as well. I had hoped to meet him one day and now that opportunity is gone. I don't know what else to say other than rest in peace Terry.

Let this be a reminder that life is short and we never no when our time will come. Cherish the friends and family you have everyday.

Never met Terry, but as a member of this forum, felt I sort of knew him from his posts. The last post of his I read was the the "Poison Sumac Adventure" which although painful for Terry, was certainly a hoot to read. I printed it out and showed it to one of my friends that is in the farm machinery business, and he told me he has eaten at Moonshine. Terry will be missed by his friends and family and his posts and humor will surely be missed here. Wish I could have met him personally! My prayers are with you all.

Re: Terry 'ACL' Remembered

Several members have mentioned that when you met Terry, he had this way of making you feel special. I think, for me at least, I have figured out how he did this.

Every so often in life you meet people who are instantly family to you. Not just a friend, but family. There is a connection, and familiarity that means you would do anything you could for this individual, and you just know they would do the same. I have had the good fortune of meeting quite a few people like this in my. Terry is one of these people for me ...

I have a feeling though, for Terry, everyone was family ... And that is how he could make everyone feel so special.

With this in mind, I have a thought ... If everyone was a member of Terry's family, then that means we are all family also ... And should treat each other as such (which I think most of us on this board already do)... Regardless of what motorcycle we ride, and what type of riding gear we wear, or don't wear, we are all family thanks to Terry. That would, I think, make Terry happy ...

I can't even get through this thread right now... This is such terrible news....

My most heartfelt condolences to all of his family and friends. ACL is one of those special few people that is truly bigger than life and enriched everyone whom he touched...

Re: Terry 'ACL' Remembered

The recent combine story of his was hilarious! I can relate because I lived on a farm for a while, and can relate to upcoming disasters that happen on the farm. His story just went on and on. How he got into the poison oak had me laughing so hard, and falling off my chair! He will be sooo missed.

While I've never met Terry, I've heard many great things about him and loved reading his posts and replies. I wish I would have done a Moonshine trip to experience him.
Prayers go out to your family ACL.

I never had the privilege of meeting Terry Hammond, but can plainly see that he has been a much loved and respected person who has made a very obvious contribution to the lives of so many people at so many levels in so many ways.

His posts were often so funny I would burst out laughing whilst reading them sitting in our Tea Room..... my wife would enquire as to my sanity....
The near disaster with the farm trailers and the story of the poison sumac, well only Terry could tell such a story of pain and make it funny. He could laugh at himself and make us laugh with him.

All I can say is that when my time comes, if I can have affected the lives of half the number of people that Terry clearly did, then perhaps I will have achieved something.

Mary and I send our deepest sympathy to the Hammond family and to all his friends and fellow riders.

I hope I can hoist a moonburger in his memory one day!

Here's to Terry, perhaps that should be;

Here's to Terry!,,,,,

I have to tell this story. Terry and I were talking in his shop before we left to go to Moonshine last Saturday. He said, "You know you board of regents have to decide who will be added to the board." I said, "your one too. He said, "Thats not true, I was never made a member."

I here by nominate Terry a MLR Board of Regents member. For all the ..... Well, you know!

MLR Board of Regents

Edited: I think that was Chapter 16, Section 45 that addresses this ruling.

As one of the Board Members, I agree!
