Is there clearance to swing the fuel tank up for air filter replacement when a Helibar riser is installed? It's an ST1300. Hoping I don't have to unbolt the bars. Thanks in advance.

I've got Heli Bars and my tank will clear, but I always remove the five bolts of the bracket at the base of the tank to let it move around a bit.
This enables more movement of the upper tank during the process and seems to put less strain or pinch on the interconnecting hose.
Will be replacing the hose as well as the filter this week.
Hose seems good but it's getting on sixteen years old. and there can be up to twenty odd litres in that upper tank. Some including the service manual I think recommend replacement of the constant tension clamps at the same time.
[edit] Subject to correction, but I think if you run your fuel down to less than one bar[?] the upper tank should be empty.
[second edit] Nope. Don't know where that memory came from.
In fact I could not hinge my tank up at the horizontal bolt with the bracket in place.

Three or more bars displayed on the fuel gauge and there is still fuel in the upper tank.
Two bars showing on the fuel gauge and there is still a small amount of fuel remaining in the upper tank.
One bar flashing and estimated remaining range displayed on the fuel gauge the upper tank and the hose connecting it to the lower tank are empty.

I too have the Heli-bar risers and there is room for the tank lift, and it does go high enough for the prop rod to be used

Is it necessary to run the fuel down before lifting the tank? I haven't done that... so far, no problem.

No, not if you are not removing the tank or opening the lower tank.
Besides the added weight the risk is if the connecting hose between the two tanks fails while you are raising/lowering the upper tank gas will pour out everywhere.

I've made a correction in post 4 since replacing the air filter and upper / lower tank connecting hose. While it seems that the general consensus is that the tank will hinge past some Heli Bars, mine will not. I've only had the tank off once before and thought I didn't really need to remove the bracket.
That being my situation, I would rather run the fuel down and remove the tank as opposed to removing the bars.

Unless you have a cop switch on the right side.

Then you need to unbolt two of the handlebar bolts and loosen the upper right side bolt, to swing the handle bar out of the way.

I added a cop switch to my 2012, and found out the hard way!

Just thought I'd throw that in! ;)
