Yesterday I had to fuss with closing / locking my left bag and removing the key.
Finally found that the little leaf spring, which is depressed when lowering the inner handle, allows the pivoting lock blade to slide into the recess of said handle, has somehow twisted 90 degrees. This prevents the recess of the protrusion on that inner handle to line up and receive the lock mechanism into that slot, securing the bag and allowing key removal.
Does anyone know of an illustrated parts diagram other than this one:

Thinking that little part number 16 is what I'm dealing with.

I feel I should be able to disassemble it if necessary, and I've tried flipping that little leaf spring (for lack of a better word) back down flat with needle nose pliers, but there's no room. Looks to be less than 1/4in wide, and at mosts 1-1/2in long. That little booger is preventing me from securing that bag fully closed. Yesterday I took the bike out of town for a job, and thought I was going to have to ask my wife to come bring me my spare key - I could not get that key OUT, for the longest time, until I figured out how all the pieces work together.

I'll try to include a picture, but it's dark in that little recess and hard to light it.

Thanks for any insight - searching the forums didn't bring me any lock repair results.

You've just modified it like the police model bags so you can open and close it without the key.
You should be able to push it back down, and turn the key to rotate it back in the other direction again.

Thanks, Andrew!! That is the schnitz!!
Glad y'all are still watching this place after all this time. I'm still glad to be here, too!
(Note to self: some people call these things PANNIERS, not saddlebags!!)
Short version:
So I took it apart, and couldn't straighten it satisfactorily - so I just left that spring out. Works fine, closes, latches, and I can still lock it.

This might be of some interest. He disassembled, straightened the spring and reassembled.

Hey that pic with the latching system taken off the bag was a winner for me! I've been fighting my latches not fully releasing and have to jiggle the bag lid around to get them open. Took the bags off and the visual above helped me direct a spritz of spray lube in the right direction, bags fall open when I lift the latch now!
