Now that Motorcycle Larry seems to be belly up there are people looking for another source of driver foot peg lowering brackets for their ST1300. I came across a company called Knight Design. Their design does not lower the Honda pegs. They are a direct replacement foot peg that are about 1 3/8 inches lower than the Honda pegs.

I did a search and did not find any mention of this company on this forum. I thought that I would post the information in case anyone is looking for a way to have lowered pegs.

Adding another option I just came across. I found only one thread mentioning these pegs. The poster asked for a review/information on them. Because no one responded I'm assuming that no one here is familiar with them so I thought that I would add them as another option. They offer a lot more adjustability than any others that I have seen but they are not cheap.

An interesting design. I like the Wide Lowered Pegs. They're a tad pricey at $200 but they look almost like a little like mini-floorboards.

As with Gold Wing pegs you remove the old pegs at the pivot and replace them with these. They look trick and they may not splay your feet out like the MCL lower-ers (not that it's a big deal). Not so trick but a lot cheaper – Gold Wing pegs. Choice is good. Thanks for the link.

They also do a ST11 version just for info. Not cheap though, I agree.

I’ve got Knight Design pegs on my Hayabusa. Good quality and nice looking. They’re not real inexpensive either.

What is the purpose of all those little round dowels on the surface of he foot peg? To provide a non-slip surface? (Maybe they fit into holes you drill in your boot :rofl1:)

I'm not sure if I'm a big fan of the little dowels. But just to clarify your are saying: these are 1-3/8' lower than my stock ST 1300 pegs?

For us with long legs, these look like the hot ticket, considering there are few alternatives, if you want that kind of drop. They are pricey, but for machined, american made parts, the price seems in line. IF they are tucked in enough to not pose road clearance issues (i am wondering if that is too much drop) I think under $200 is worth it for leg relief if you need it. I am not a fan of the little dowels, but I like the wider peg. If I were to get a set, I would get the wider ones and mill off the little dowels or fab up a replacement set of bolt on pads to replace the dowelled set. I am watching this item with much interest and am curious of anyones thoughts that get these.

Edit:... just checked out the website and see that they offer what I think would be a better tread for my liking. I would get these ones

I could make brackets to lower pegs or fab new ones, but wont the pegs drag ground quicker.

As I mentioned above, I have the MCL FIXED (which are foldable) peg lowering kit and I have not had any difficulty with touching down in around 32000 km of riding (around 20,000 miles) on my ST1300.

Now, I am not a very aggressive rider, but I ain’t dead either. If I really only wanted to only go slowly, I’d have bought a Harley Davidson.

A few days after mounting the MCL units, I went to a traffic circle (aka roundabout in the UK) near my home. It was about 11:30 at night but the area is well lit and there was nobody around. I went around and around, accelerating till I touched down - and eventually I did start to scrape the LH footpeg knob on my transplanted Gold Wing pegs.

In the process, I found that:
  1. I was going a lot faster than I normally would on a curve of that radius;
  2. The touch-down was totally benign - I simply felt the peg begin to lift a little under my left foot and once I backed off a few km/hr - the peg dropped back into position.
Sorry nay-sayers, but these lowered, but folding, pegs are NOT dangerous and they simply are NOT a big deal at all in terms of how they have affected my riding.

They have allowed me to keep riding my bike in comfort and without pain - at the cost of once in a while, slowing down by 5 km/hr - and so they’re totally worth it, at least IMO.

If you really need that extra 2-5 km/hr on a sharp corner, then you’re probably young and flexible enough to ride an ST using the stock ergonomics.

+1 on that. I do ride a ST and feel the same way. And if you need the extra 2mph ( my similar testing) then you probably never bought the ST to begin with.

Like the Gold Wing pegs (which were measured 1" lower on my ST) these pegs won't give anybody's legs a stretch. 1"~1 3/8" isn't much and nothing like proper highway pegs. Some members here have reported noticing no difference between GW pegs and stockers.

However– that little increase in distance may be just enough to relieve a pinch in the hips or knees depending on the rider's individual physiology. The GW pegs worked for me. I can ride longer before getting that pinch. I should lower the gearshift leaver a smudge, but I've pretty much adjusted to it and am a little on the lazy side about adjusting it.

I think these fancy Knight Design pegs would be an improvement for me but they are a tad pricy. I don't care for the off-road design. The factory pegs are smooth rubber and I've seen no mention of anybody needing more aggressive peg tread on an ST. On pavement the cylindrical pegs are probably overkill but I could probably slide my foot around almost as easily as on rubber peg covers compared to the macho bear trap pegs. Unfortunately it doesn't seem the wider pegs have the rubber cover option. Their site addresses the ability to move your feet around on their pegs.

The GW pegs have something in common with one or both versions of the MCL pegs. They seem to widen the distance between your feet a bit. Being a little lower and wider they will touch down sooner for some riders and maybe not at all for others. I don't know if the wider stance is true of these KD pegs.

Riders who like to drag their knees while riding their ST or those who like to think they do might want to actually read the site's info on ground clearance and give it some consideration before making a decision. Their site actually has a lot of info and is only a click away.

Apparently I neglected to add the YMMV condition on my post and may have offended some here, enough to have them accuse me of being some kind of knee dragging boy racer. In fact the peg dragging occurred while two-up, which had already reduced ground clearance. Regardless, as a Canadian, I feel the need to apologize, FWIW.

....and as another Canadian, I’m sorry too Tom!
