Hi Martin, thats great news, happy for you that it was not something more sinister! I must pull off my seat and check mine too. The past weekend I stripped my fairing off to put in fresh coolant, and give the engine a good clean, oil change and general checkover, I was a bit horrified to note that the engine Temp Guage connector plug had melted, upon closer inspection seems like it is only the plug plastic casing that has somewhat melted, the cable seems ok, I decided to not fiddle as everything is working fine and have absolutely no idea how long it has been this way. The exhaust manifold is very close to the temp guage unit albeit the guage is surrounded by a metal bracket...wondering if that bracket is not supposed to have some sort of cover to protect the plug...anyway, I covered it up with some insulation tape in the interim until I find the willpower to remove fairing again, its quite a mission, and probs take it to an Auto Elec to sort out... Pic attached. Ride safe, glad your issue is History! :)

Hi

For the connector to melt the wire connection needs looking at and a new connector.
It happened on my front main beam bulb the wires were damaged and it was heating up and burning out causing a short and the wires and the connector needed replacing as that had melted also.
Just needs disconnecting check the wire connection and new plug.

To be fair i used to take my bike apart regular and remove all the fairing to check things and because i have been a bit sloppy over the last 12 months i missed this.
It really is worth knowing your bike and taking the time to do strip downs from time to time just to make sure all looks well under the tupperware as well as regular servicing.

It does look like the main wire harness can rub throughout different sections of the bike so i would definitely keep an eye on the wires as i for one do not want to have this happen again
it would have been scary on the motorway in lane two or three could have done with an ejector seat and a parachute to be used in extreme situations when you know its game over.
Its typical out of all the wires it cut through it cuts through the main live feed to the battery taking out all of my main electrics and leaving me with a rolling paper weight.
I am thankful though i stopped safely and that it did not cause any expensive damage to my bike, the fuse did its job.

Best wishes

Yep I must check my air filter tomorrow night after work and tap out whatever dust may have accumulated, the filter is fairly new but it will give me the opportunity to lift the tank and seats etc to check the harness out and secure where necessary. I should have attended to the temp sensor connector there and then but discovering all was working well on the bike and the weather was good last weekend I wanted my Scoot back in action ASAP, this weekend good weather again, BUT i have to attend to that connector either way and put my mind at rest. Agreed, you are very lucky not to have been in a busy lane especially where you cant pull over safely, when my Wing cut, I was in the fast lane, it was to say the least daunting to get over to the left (yep we drive on the left too in Southern Africa ) :) and the main route to the Coast is seriously hectic with trucks making their way to the harbour, trying to get the 400 KG Wing over to the left with no power negotiating thundering trucks was no fun! ;)
