Hi all just interested as mine has just broke in your thoughts on preferred screen height on the st1100s . The care beauties

I’m 5,9 normal seat height, would you think 22 inch screen would work for seeing over it.

I'm 5'9" and I love my givi which is the same height and shape as the OEM. it moves the air nicely. I also have a 24" screen that is extra wide that I switch to when it gets cold. Besides vision thoughts also take into account how the windscreen affects the handling. I much prefer the handling with my smaller windscreen, I find the large one acts like a sail in a crosswind. Oh my line of sight on the larger windscreen has the top right in my line of vision. Just my thoughts.

I don't want to look through it unless it's raining (and ASSUMING the windshield has been recently treated with "Rain X for Plastic".)

All other situations, I want to have the top edge of the windshield around my nostrils or upper lip so that I look over it.

That gives me the clearest possible view of everything that is more than 75 feet in front of me.

And if there's sun glare coming off the edge of the windshield I might lower it even more than that.

That's assuming I'm wearing one of my full face helmets with its own visor / face shield.
if I'm using my three-quarter helmet (open face) my answer might be different, but I don't have much experience using that helmet on this new-to-me ST 1300.

If the windshield that you are considering is available in different heights get the taller one. If you find it to tall it can be cut down but the opposite doesn't work to well.

I had a PowerBronze (UK) screen which had the nostrils and a flip-up lip - like the original - but it was a good bit taller (5 inches I think). I was 6'3" at the time. (I'm shrinking !!)

Link showing the +3 and +5 inch models . They appear to be still available.

[edit] found an old photo of it on my old ST1100AY with the powerbronze +5 fitted.

I like it so that I can see over the top, but the airflow is directed over the top of my helmet. The screen flip-up does that.
It resulted in a screen riding position which I also have on my ST1300 - see avatar. Looking over screen. Flip up pushes airflow over my head. The original screen doesn't do that on the 1300. If I look over the screen, the air goes straight into my face. I don't often ride with visor down.

My brother fitted a deflector onto the top of the standard ST1100 screen. He likes it and it seems it does a similar thing. I haven't got a clue what make it is or how it compares. It just clamps onto the top. He's a tad taller than me.

I prefer to see just over it but the top of my helmet is in the slipstream.
Essential...
- maintained visibility once the screen dirties up (odd weather, roadworks...)
- sufficient airflow on helmet visor to drive rain/droplets off and maintain function of vents

My brother fitted a deflector onto the top of the standard ST1100 screen.
Tried such, mounts will fold upon hitting 60mph, increased wind noise, excessive load on screen mounts/cowl stay (garnish plate popped out upon hitting 75mph).

I'm 6'4" and find the taller screen to be good and can see over the top, or duck down in nastier weather (or at higher speeds  )

I installed this 20 inch screen three years back on our 1991. Don't know the maker since it has no markings....I got it with a bunch of spares I found locally. It has a flat frontal contour, not flipped at the top like most. I'm 5-10 and it directs the wind stream over the top of my helmet so I get no wind buffeting which makes it nice in cold weather and rain. The upper lip cuts straight across my field of vision....that was bothersome for a while but I hardly notice it now.

Like PmodelinUS, I have a Givi. Like it a lot, but to have the wind flow just above my helmet it needs a spoiler/deflector. Unusable without one due to buffetting. This also holds true for the current version virtually straight Clearview (original Clearview with a bend to it was ok as is, as was Rifle. Rifle had no bend but was taller). Oldbikerfxer photo might be a Rifle.
I also want air on my arms, so the wider 'barn doors' don't work well for me, except maybe in winter.
I won't look through a windshield.
As has been said, a lot depends on your size and how you sit. I'm 6 ft, or at least used to be. The years have compressed me a bit, as 1 inch seems to have vanished.

Thanks John going to go with same option take care man

I've tried a tall Clearview, a Madstad, stock, stock with a Laminar Lip, and finally the full Laminar Lip setup. Like the Laminar Lip the best.
