Which rebuild kit to go with, OEM or other aftermarket. Anybody have the correct part #?
I used the OEM one too.
I have a 99 (45k) master cylinder apart and the innards look fine. Would you clean and re-assemble (kit is not cheap) or get new parts?
Had been having trouble bleeding the front brakes. Checking the master cyl is the last thing to check and the rubber bits look ok to me.
Have not figured out why the brake lever isn't firming up.
No clue. It was 8 years ago.I realize that this is an ancient thread, but this is the problem I'm having AFTER replacing the parts in my front master cylinder for my 2000 ST1100Y
what was your end results?
Lube with brake assembly paste and use a thin, round instrument with no sharp edges to start prying it on...Anybody got any tricks for getting the piston seal on the body of a rebuild kit?
OK, Thank you. I'm tempted, but not quite to that point yet. Or my rebuild kit from ebay could be garbage too.No clue. It was 8 years ago.
Might have just used another m/c.
You will get farHaving trouble getting the brakes to bled on my 2000 ST non abs. rebuilt both front calipers new crush washers but I keep getting tiny bubbles in the handle bar reservoir. Tried vacuum bleeding, conventional bleeding, tapping the banjos, handlebars level. It has over 80,000 miles on it. Wondering if the master cylinder needs rebuilding. Bike has been sitting for a few months. Thanks.
Try bleeding the master cylinder. Rotate the bars so the master cylinder banjo bolt is at its highest point and bleed it by cracking open the banjo bolt while squeezing the brake lever. Some times air gets stuck in that area. If you do this repeatedly (squeezing the brake lever) do you see the level of fluid going down? Did you try what Andrew Shadow advised above? I needed to that for my clutch one time.I get no bubbles at the caliper’s but when I squeeze the brake lever I get a big bubble at the master cylinder?
