ST1100 front brake master cylinder kit

I have a 99 (45k) master cylinder apart and the innards look fine. Would you clean and re-assemble (kit is not cheap) or get new parts?

Your comment about having it apart and it looks fine is a bit short on information. If you just took it apart for inspection, then its probably OK to just put it back together and be done with it. If you were investigating an issue, then I'd go with new parts.

Had been having trouble bleeding the front brakes. Checking the master cyl is the last thing to check and the rubber bits look ok to me.
Have not figured out why the brake lever isn't firming up.

I realize that this is an ancient thread, but this is the problem I'm having AFTER replacing the parts in my front master cylinder for my 2000 ST1100Y
what was your end results?

No clue. It was 8 years ago.
Might have just used another m/c.

Anybody got any tricks for getting the piston seal on the body of a rebuild kit?
It's quite an adventure.....

No... getting that seal on is a real PITA. Lube up with brake fluid and force it on. I have strong fingers. Be sure to know the correct orientation of the seal, it can be put on backwards. John

Having trouble getting the brakes to bled on my 2000 ST non abs. rebuilt both front calipers new crush washers but I keep getting tiny bubbles in the handle bar reservoir. Tried vacuum bleeding, conventional bleeding, tapping the banjos, handlebars level. It has over 80,000 miles on it. Wondering if the master cylinder needs rebuilding. Bike has been sitting for a few months. Thanks.

You will get far
better replies than mine soon, but many will say tie, clamp, whatever, the lever down in the compressed position and leave it overnight.

Try bleeding the master cylinder. Rotate the bars so the master cylinder banjo bolt is at its highest point and bleed it by cracking open the banjo bolt while squeezing the brake lever. Some times air gets stuck in that area. Protect your paint.

If you get some air out of the master, then re-bleed the entire brake system again.

I get no bubbles at the caliper’s but when I squeeze the brake lever I get a big bubble at the master cylinder?
If you do this repeatedly (squeezing the brake lever) do you see the level of fluid going down? Did you try what Andrew Shadow advised above? I needed to that for my clutch one time.

I was told also to clamp one brake hose off and get one bled without bubbles then swap the clamp. They used vice grips to close off the line. I personally did not do that, I just persevered until I got all the air out. It was not easy.

I have stainless brake lines so I can not pinch them. I did try the Clamping the brake lever all night, did not work. i have bled the master at the banjo bolt. Tilted the handle bars. The only thing I have not triede is bench bleeding the mast cylinder. This bike has Heli bars which makes the brake lines a little unusal in their routing. Just did the slave cylinder for the clutch that was easy. Ordered a master cylinder rebuild kit should be here thursday or friday. I,ll let you know when we figure it out. thanks
