OK, found the thread:
Christopher (misterguitar) hasn’t been on the forum for over a year now so don’t know how it all worked out. I suspect that he was successful though based on his responses.Questions regarding breather connections and transmission case covers | ST1100 Related
I bought a 93 ST100 and have been trying to sort out the breather/emissions connections. So it would seem there are two versions of the transmission case on these bikes? One that has a hose connector in the main housing and one that is cast with no connector. And there is also a connector on the...www.st-owners.com

Alf, the small hose leads from the breather box to the nipple on the bottom right underside of the air cleaner case/box. The large smooth hose leads to the upper rear nipple on the rear case (see my picture in post #3). The large braided hose leads to the nipple on the bottom of the shift cover. In this picture that Christopher posted in the linked thread I posted above (post #5) we identified his problem: he had a ‘91 engine without the external crankcase breather system installed! The picture shows the later model rear case cover that he also had, w/o the upper breather port. It also shows the ‘91 shift cover with breather port.Ho John I still cant seem to find where the lower hose on the breather tank goes. I've attached the hoses to where they are going to for the picture. From your previous picture it looks like the braided hose is going to the bottom of the breather box or is the 2 braided hoses
hey, that's good news on the white smoke issue, never would have guessed the mufflers as the cause.
But, that wouldn't explain the milky oil issue, any news on what might be causing that?
Oil being thin and smelling of gasoline was most likely caused by a stuck float. The carbon in the exhaust baffles was likely due to an overfull crankcase causing the oil fuel mixture to be sucked into the exhaust system and when it gets hot, it will cause white smoke.I think it was condensation from the engine breather hoses being wrong one also had a air compressor attachment screwed into it for some reason. The oil wasn't milky as such more thin, the bike was stood a long time outside. I've changed the oil and it looks fine now so time will tell I'll check it again in a week after some riding...
