How do you guys like your Multitec helmets ?

I honestly wish Shoei would consider installing an internal drop down sun visor like many helmets are going to now.

I have an RF1000 currently and just can't seem to find a helmet that features the internal sunvisor and at the same time is up to Shoei's level of design fit and quality.

I have looked at a lot of helmets and they all seem to have something that stands out like poor fit or awful shield mechanisms etc.

The internal sunvisor would be awesome in a Shoei helmet.

Opinions ?

I like mine alot, it is my favorite helmet now. I wear glasses so I get wind protection now from them when I ride with with the helmet visor up. At this time a flip-down visor isn't important to me.

I've only got a few hundred miles on my new Multitec, but I am well pleased. The sizing and fit are similar to the RF1000, which I was wearing before. A pleasant surprise was that I have not found the Multitec to be significantly noisier than the RF1000. Installing the StarCom open face headset was straight forward, though tucking the wires between the liner and the shell took a bit of effort.

Overall, I'm liking this helmet a lot.

Have any of you Multitec owners had a Syncrotec before? I'm curious how they stack up against each other (old vs. new).

Has anyone else noticed the shell size difference between the Syncrotec large and the Multitec Large?

I guess another question would be , Is the Multitech physically larger than the RF1000 ? The RF 1000 is a very comfortable light helmet, is the Multitech also ?

The Multitech is very light for a modular helmet. I tried all the various modulars and it was the lightest and best balanced (although it is slightly heavier than the RF1000 due to the added weight of the latch and hinge mechanisms). It's also the quietest.

Compared to the Synchrotec, the Multitech is like night and day. It's a vast improvement in every way and well worth the $$$. My Multitech seems to be sized the same as the Synchrotec (at least for the mediums).

I love my Multitech. I paid $300 for mine at the bike show in Fort Worth last year.

I wanted the internal sunvisor also until I found the "Helmet Sunblocker" at Moto Liberty for $15.95. I bought the universal model and can switch it to my other helmet in less than 1 minute. The installation instructions say to install it on the inside of the visor, but I just apply it to the outside of mine. I've never had any problem with it coming off even at sustained speeds in excess of 100 mph (off road of course )

On the Sunblocker package it says www.helmetsunblocker.com but it redirects you to www.helmetheadcyclegear.com

I have the Multitec for a couple of months now.
Great setup with clear and shaded visor, also have a pinlockvisor and wisperkit attached.
Extra bonus, easy to fit my Autocom headset in there.
I don't mis my Schubert C2, but maybe the new C3 could have been an option.

any of you guys got an edset or j&m headset installed in your multitech?

Larry can you give an opinion on this sunblocker thingy?

I was planning a new helmet for this week, and I think my old helmet heard about the plans. The latch for my chin bar broke last night causing me to have a sudden desire to speed up the process.

I wear glasses so sun glasses aren't an option. I really want the internal flip down sun shade thing. I am debating right now between the Shoei Multitech and an HJC CYMAX II. Neither are in stock at my local shop, but can be ordered. Is a Shoei with a sunblocker contraption better than the HJC? Its twice the cost! I really want some sun protection, and was going to forget about my Shoei plans right up until I read this thread.

I have been lusting after the new Schuberth C3. Apparently a vast improvement over the C2 and the problem right now is availability and cost as they just released the helmet in Sept.

They can be ordered from the UK as there is no distributor in Canada or the US.

I may decide to order one ... :04biker:

I have both the RF-1000 and the Multi-Tec and prefer the RF-1000.
With the Multi-Tec I lose some paripheal vision. I rode from Ca. to NY in July with the Multi-Tec and while I was glad I did based on the ability to flip up the chin bar I always had this nagging feeling of giving up the safety of the one piece RF-1000. It also concerns me that Shoei offers replacement chin bars for the Multi-Tec, WHY ? Is it due to the mechanism wearing out for other reasons , like impact damage ?
I'll keep the Multi-Tec but will use it very rarely.
I'm a devoted Shoei Head and in fact am shopping for a new X-11.

Just my two cents on the topic.

Can't say for the Synchrotec but I have the Multi and the RF1000. The Multi runs a bit different, in that if you use the XL for the RF1000, you'll find the XL Multi is too big and you'll need to downsize to a large for a better fit.

LOVE the Multi by the way, and still love my RF ! I use the Multi when riding 2 up, which I do a lot, and the RF when I go solo.

Really like the function and fit of the Multitec. Over the last year and 30k miles, the initial stiffness of the flip-up became easier, but not loose. Got knocked off the bike a couple weeks ago and the helmet stayed tight while taking two small dings to the back.

Reference sizing, I went down a size when I switched. Nice and snug, but comfortable, usually had some indents in my cheeks (nothing major) after wearing the helmet for more than a minute or two. I can now say that when riding my Stich instead of my bike on the road, it fit perfect!

Had JCM speakers and mic installed, no problem and they worked great.

It's a great helmet and I'm getting a new one, even though this one "looks fine." I would sure like to have a flip-down sun visor though!

The mechanism that holds the chin in the up position can break - at least it has on my Synchrotec. To fix the problem, you have to replace the entire chin bar section. $150. I suspect that's why they sell the part.

I'll live with it until Spring and buy a new one.

I just bought a new multitec and got pinlock visors (clear and smoke) for it. I'm really liking the helmet, but what I am disappointed with about it is that the liners are not removable. For the price of the helmet you would think they would have at least put some removable internals. All you can remove are the earpads.

I called Shoei and asked them about cleaning the helmet liner. I was told that you can wash the helmet by putting it in the bathtub and dunking it under water.

They said to use something like shampoo to wash the liner and then just sit the helmet on something to dry. The assured me it was OK to do this as all components are waterproof.

I took my RF1000 into the shower and washed it well inside and rinsed it out. Set it on a thick towel and let it dry. A dirty smelly helmet was nice and fresh, just like new.

Thats the word, right from Shoei themselves. :04biker:
