Questions regarding breather connections and transmission case covers

OK my breather chamber came int he mail today! My next question is how does it mount to the bike? I'm looking in the picture you put up and can't see how it gets bolted to the bracket?

My photo is pretty clear. The bracket with the mounting bolt is on the frame gusset just aft of the valve cover. I’m not going to pull the plastic for a new picture just now, still recovering from surgery. Haven’t checked but there may be difference in year/model frame part numbers, IOW your frame may not be exactly like mine. I’m sure there’s room in your ST for the chamber but if need be, you may have to fabricate a simple tab to secure it to your frame. Let us know how it goes, please. This is all new... fitting a ‘91 engine in a later model year.

Project update: I just had about $700 worth of new part show up from partzilla. And I have the bike torn down with the rear swingarm off to do the alternator upgrade, replace the bent crash bars, R&R the driveshaft, put my galfer stainless steel braided brake lines on, and put my newly cleaned and rebuilt carbs back on! I also ordered a complete 98 wiring harness from a salvage yar din Canada so I won;t have any extra plugs on my harness after the alternator upgrade. Will be busy over the weekend!

So I spent all day Sunday getting the engine out. I just was not happy with the idea of chopping up the alternator cover. I also discovered the PO had neglected to put the upper two engine mount brackets back on! So I decided to pull the engine and double check everything else while I have it in pieces! When I bought the bike he gve me a whoel box of bolts and said I "looked like a guy who would know if any bolts were missing." sigh. Just ordered the missing brackets, a new timing belt, and a few new gaskets. Hopefully should have everything by this weekend to stitch things all back up.

Project update: Ok so the parts cam. The engine which I have on a jack in the garage now has had the valves adjusted (9 were out of spec by .001) and new Honda valve cover gaskets and sealant installed. I also got the gasket for the rear transmission cover finally and it is on now with the correct back plate with the breather hose connection. I replaced the neutral switch as the old one was looking very rusty. The new gates timing belt is in place and timing is correct. I pulled apart the clutch slave cylinder. Man what a mess! lots of rusty goo in there. Spent the better part of the evening cleaning it and polishing it. Looks good as new now. It's amazing what plastic finger wheel on a dremel can do for cleaning! I have all new seals gasket and spring for it to get it back together tonight. Pretty soon I'll be able to lift it up and get the engine back in the bike as the missing brackets finally came!

Update:
So I managed to crack the casting for the clutch cover while trying to remove the oil seal without removing the cover. BAD IDEA. So I had to order a new one. BUt now the slave cylinder and clutch cover have all new seals and gaskets!

So after getting the clutch back together I needed to get the frame back on the bike. What a wrestling match! I'm used to dealing with 350-500CC engines you can lift. I don't know who Honda is kidding when they say roll that engine in there from the side on a jack. That didn't work at all! So I put the frame ON the engine!

But then I discovered a 10mm bolt hole on the right side of the engine had been stripped out by the prior owner! So then my face looked like this as a realized a Time-Sert would be needed to fix this.

So a few days later Amazon brought the magic right to my door.

This was one of those times when having splurged for very good tools was a blessing! I had hit the sears closeout a while back. Working on these old bikes with soft aluminum engines has taught me that a good tap and die set with the GOOD ratcheting handle set is indispensable!

So after drilling out the hole and tapping it and countersinking it, it is ready for the insert.....

And now the insert is in!

Dsicovered ANOTHER goof by the prior owner. Looks like his kid used WAYYY tooo much sealant on the water pipe orings. This engine was getting no cooling here! Needless to say I cleaned both surfaces , cleared out the RTV clog, and new oring's with correct sealant and amount were applied.
