Paint match

The paint store I use has one of these and I have used them to sometimes good effects, most times not. Fading paint gets so complicated. It matters whether the candy has faded or the clear clouded or the metal flake has oxidized. sometimes a touch of white will wash it enough or will make it just pukey colored. Then when the clear is sprayed on it changes again.
As a hobbyist I do not have the experience with mixing paint that the autobody suppliers have and some are backing out of paint matching because of having to eat the cost of tinting to match when it doesn't work.
So all my painting is as close as I can get, but I consider it a custom color paint job.
I tried matching the paint on my 2015 Concours Green, black primer did one thing, gray another, 2 coats of green went too dark and one was too much. The green with a touch of blue candy got close but the gold metal flake went in a different direction.
I did not use Colorite 'cause I am too cheap, the things that I have seen done with them has been very good though.
Yeah thanks for that, I admire your persistence. Obviously not the end of the world just a tad irritating

... just a tad irritating
If you squint its mint... so... :sneaky:
Really, I'm not the crowd that spends hours at the street café, staring all over my own bike...
I might be slightly peeved when "remembered" due being up close for washing, polishing & wax/sealing the paint finish and plastic parts...
Unaware spectators don't even notice... I OTOH just "know"...
But while riding places I've other things on my mind... and out on the road the next pebble hit, ding or scratch is just lingering...

Till about '94~'95 new spare fairing parts where simply flawless, perfect shade, identical glitter, not a single drop, flake or imperfection on the paint finish by Honda there; huge cartons with protective cushions, parts double wrapped, sealed, control check cards with person's signature everywhere (makes one wonder just how many parts must have been scrapped back then...)
All changed '96 onward... cutbacks, restrictive environmental regulations, water-based paints, etc...
Tears, scratches, edges splintered, variation in color, tint and flake size/percentage... and paint rubbing off on your riding pants and boots, unseen before...
At the end they even came without decals applied, had to be purchased extra and applied in the shop...
