NT1100 coming to the US, kind of

Now the question is do I try and sell or trade in my 10+year, old 62k miles, no issue 2014 FJR and my 6 + year old 27k miles, perfect condition 2019 Versys 1000 SE LT for a NT1100. That would put me down to two bikes, my 2014 V Strom and the new NT. Most likely be my last machine in my lifetime.
No. Don’t trade any in, just buy the new one. Just like fishing rods: never sell, just get new ones. Can never have too many.

I don't see this selling well. Cops want HDs to boost their fragile male egos. I bought my ST from a department in AZ that switched from Honda to HD's.

Having panniers "optional" only means they keep the MSRP low...
And those who already purchased an AfricaTwin fuming/disappointed...

The horsepower to weight ratio is what really matters.
Not if the characteristics won't fit the task at hand...
Numbers on a glossy pamphlet are completely useless out in the wild when facing a steep, narrow hairpin, uphill, fully loaded, two up so you'd prefer to "roll" up there in 2nd gear in order to maintain smooth load changes cause you're considering the comfort of your TB...
Or doing a reliable roll-start while filtering...

And FWIW: friend of mine has an NT1100... that thing eats tires for breakfast, he get's like 5,000~6,000km/3,000~3,800miles out a set...
ranges you'd expect/live with on a crutch rocket, but not a touring motorcycle...
Sorry, I just can't schedule a bivouac in advance at about half the distance of every summer vacation... :cautious:

Been thinking about this if I were in that situation. I would probably sell the FJR and keep the other two and skip the NT. Sure, the NT is going to be a little lighter, and newer than the Kawi, but what are you really gaining besides that? At 27K the "perfect condition" Versys still has a ton of life left in it. The Versys has a much better motor imo, a smooth I-4 vs a throbby 270 P Twin. They are both chain drive and have about the same horsepower. The Kawi already comes with bags/trunk etc that you would have to buy for the NT. Also, unless you specifically want a DCT trans? (personally I love the DCT trans in my NC 750 DCT) but a manual is not available on the NT. And here is the drawback I've found with a DCT .... it can't be bump started. If the battery gets low in your Versys, you can at least bump start it to get home (even if you need help with pushers as I recently did when the battery quit on my CB 1100 manual shift ). With the DCT you are flat dead in the water, unless you carry a portable jump starter (which I do...now!)

I tend to agree with you on what bike to let go for the new Honda. I rode the big Versys down to my Local Mom and Pop Honda dealer to discuss the NT1100 and on the way home I thought about what you have mentioned here. The big Versys is very light on it's feet and I am really a 4 cylinder type of person. Already have the Versys set up the way I like. Yes the FJR is a great machine but it has become a bit heavy at my age. But I am a big guy and I can still handle her OK. My V-Strom is my favorite because of some sentimental reasons and it just fits me well especially if I want to ride some dirt roads. It just works. I will probably waffle back and forth until I can see and test ride the new NT1100. As I said space and time are the biggest limiting factors. Replace the FJR with the NT1100. Same space no less nor more. However time is becoming a large factor as my wife's disease progresses and she requires more care I have less and less time to GO RIDE. But then as dduelin said Life is short, (and in my case getting shorter my the year) buy the bike and worry about the other factors after the fact.

I saw a comparison on U tube of the NT1100 the Versys 1100SE and the Suzuki GSX-S1000GT+. And for best SPORT touring the Suzuki won, but for most comfortable TOURING the Kawaski won, and the Honda was touted as a good all around machine.

Honda always hit's the middle of the road mark... but... that's a good thing.
That's the exact reason I ended up with a ST1100(s) instead of a BMW or Triumph at the time ...
The quote was "The ST1100 just does not have a 'personality' ... it just does most things well". ;)
After living with Brit bikes and their 'personalities' that suited me just fine!

I read a 5-bike review of sport touring bikes back in 2005 or something and they said the ST was the most comfortable for the passenger, and in a nod to my wife. I bought the ST instead of the FJR or Triumph or BMW

Were I looking for a 2-up sport tourer these days I would certainly give the Suzuki a test ride (I'd also ride the NT 1100) but my wife no longer rides with me, so I don't need a 125 hp 2 up transcontinental missile anymore. I enjoyed my 2018 FJR (particularly with the updates it had over the ST... less weight, cruise, heated grips, 6 speed trans) but again, it's more than I need these days.

BTW Chuck I too consider myself a liter class I-4 guy. I just don't have one anymore which makes me sad :(

you don't have your CB1100 anymore?

Oh yea I still have it. Guess I shouldn't have said I don't have a liter class I-4 anymore doh. Mostly ridden just for pleasure now. It has a little over 76,000 miles on it.

The NC is my daily rider, although I'm about to turn over 57,000 on it. Another year and it will have as many miles as the CB lol. Hopefully it will last until I'm done riding
