Has NGK changed the part from cr7eh-9 to cr9eh-9 ? If so can someone tell me why.

No. These are two different spark plugs.
If you are referring to what the NGK Canada website lists as the correct spark plug for the ST1300, I think that is just a mistake on their website. The US NGK website still lists the CR7EH-9 as the correct spark plug for the ST1300. They are still widely available.

For what it is worth, I don't really pay much attention or really care what the spark plug manufacturers list as the correct spark plug for any particular application. I use the spark plug that the manufacturer of the engine lists as the correct spark plug.

Fort Nine indicated the cr9eh-9 to be the correct part but after removal of the old ones the match was different. I will return them. Thanks for the reply.

Why? What leads you to believe NGK "changed" the part number?

The "7" and "9" refer to a heat range, so "changing" the part # makes no sense.

Read your owner's manual for proper part #, as Andrew posted in #6 post.

One other thing to keep in mind ... ensure you buy from a reputable parts store, cause there's fake NGK plugs being sold

He is asking because Fort Nine, where he purchased his spark plugs, list the CR9EH-9 as the correct spark plug for the ST1300.
The NGK Canada website does as well. Probably what happened is that there is a mistake on the NGK Canada website, and Fort Nine is getting their information from there.

CR9EH-9 is too cold for the ST1300. Especially if you are riding at higher altitudes when the compression is lower due to air density. A CR7EH is preferred for a lot of city driving or high altitude and it is fine for most anywhere. CR8EH is also fine for most applications.

Why not go with the Iridium version CR8EHIX-9 ? I have those in mine and they will last a long long time.....

Interestingly enough, the NGK website lists ONLY the CR7EH-9 and specifically states the CR8EH-9 is not for the ST. Of course, I'm happy with whatever Honda says, but it's interesting the manufacturer doesn't cross reference to the same parts.

I'd jump ship and use DENSO plugs instead of ANYTHING NGK lately, due to all the knock off plugs being sold out there.
Go to the NGK website and check out their "what to look for" to verify if your plugs are real or not.
Another flag is that several online places that sell NGK are not authorized to sell them, nor are selling real plugs.

This is an incredibly timely thread! Last night I ordered the NGK sparkplugs listed as being the correct ones from Fortnine (CR9EHIX-9). Thankfully I was able to cancel the order before it shipped.

Thanks guys.

Why risk it…
You won’t know if they are real until they are in your hands, and you check all the things the NGK site warns you about.
I can say, that I have not found a single authentic NGK iridium plug in an ST in the last year or so, and I have dozens of poor and cheaply made fake ones in my jar of shame.
Buyer beware.

So to those who know more than me, is the correct NGK iridium plug for the ST1300 model CR7HIX as below?

Not sure about the ones you have shown. When I went with an iridium replacement plug a few years ago, I remember not being able to find a plug in the "7" range , but I could in the "8" range.

CR8EHIX-9 is what I use. I bought them from a motorcycle retailer online. I questioned him about all the knock off plugs being sold and he assured me that buying from motorcycle and ATV shops was safe. He said they wouldn't risk their business on selling fake plugs. Rock Auto and Amazon is another story.
