New to ST 1300. Might have some questions?

Hi, not sure if this is the right spot to post this. I’m a new owner to the Honda ST1300, it’s in 2004. Just picked it up only put about 120 miles on it. Going to go through it and change, oil filter filters, air, cleaners, etc. Anyway, I had looked on the Internet and there was some type of speed wobble at 110? I’m not sure I’m ever going to get to 110. But I’m assuming that is too much weight over the rear axle? Comments? Anyway, my name is Dale. I go by ab-buff. You can call me either. Looking forward to hearing some of the input. I’ve looked through some of the threads. They look very interesting. Is there a lot involved in removing the fairing to get to the engine to change the oil?

Some get a wobble, some don't. Top cases seem to exacerbate the problem... sometimes. There's no definitive cause that I'm aware of.

Keep it under 110mph and you'll be fine.

Welcome to the forum. Just to change the oil. you only need to remove the little access panel on the side fairing to lift the cover over the valve cover on the right. To get to the air cleaner, need to lift the tank and remove the air cleaner housing lid--several screws but not overbearing. Don't forget the brake and clutch fluid.

Welcome to the forum! I strongly recommend getting the factory service manual if you plan to do maintenance and repairs. There is a sequence to follow to remove the plastics which could get frustrating if you don't follow it. To change the oil, it's easiest if you remove the "lower cowl", but you could probably do it without.

Welcome aboard.

Removing the fairing for the first time was intimidating. So many different screws and plastic fasteners! My mantra is, "when all else fails, read the instructions" but this time I cheated and opened the manual first - that told me what order to remove
Then I stumbled across this article:

I printed all the pages out and poked holes for the fasteners. Second time took half as long to remove and put back the pieces. Practice makes it easier.

Aye, that's the ticket. The Honda manual has a few mistakes, but it is by far the best resource for our bikes. Errors are documented on this website (but I forgot where). Maybe do a search? If that yields nothing, ask another question when you get the book. They come up used here now and then.

Yes that's the one! As SMSW mentioned, there are some errors in it. Mine came for bikes from 2003 - 2015 with a few errata pages to insert. I don't think they caught them all though. Others on here will let you know where other errors are.
