New Garmin Zumo XT

If you have your Zumo connected to the Mydrive app on your phone you can have it show outside temperature. It won't show temperature unless it is linked.
The TomTom MyDrive app supports the Garmin Zumo XT?

Thanks Dan for your post.
been thinking about the zumo XT for my Africa Twin with an extra mount for the ST.
only thing holding me back right now is price, May have to wait till next spring.
cheers,
Dale

For what it is worth, I think I figured out why my power cord died. The fit in the mount is tight. Tight enough that I questioned if it was locked in place.

For this weekend's riding, I removed the power supply pins...and the GPS actually snaps in place like you'd expect. When my replacement power cord comes in, I'll see if it can be installed a little back to give it some clearance.

Chris

When you get the replacement please consider sending me the old one. I'd like to experiment with it. Thanks.

I don't see how you could do that without whittling some material off the cord. You might find the replacement will fit better. Is Garmin sending you a replacement mount too?

Adding some pics of the screen in direct sun. First is when the sun was behind me. Second an third has the sun in front/overhead. Screen is a bit more readable in person.

Heads up.

The latest 5.90 firmware installed on my XT is presenting me with issues when using OSM maps to navigate. "Cannot Calculate Route" is the best that I can get at present.
Also - the latest verison of Garmin Express 7.4.0.0 does not have an option for installing maps onto a computer for the XT.
These may be resolved - questions have been lodged with Garmin to find out whether these are errors or a new design features.

Edit

V6.10 fixes the first issue with OSM maps.

Yep, identical experiences were posted on a German Garmin forum...
But there is hope! Since the Garmin Topo-Maps were as well rendered useless with that firmware, they might release a bug-fix...
Unless it was a purposely, proprietary maneuver by Garmin of course...

Also - the latest verison of Garmin Express 7.4.0.0 does not have an option for installing maps onto a computer for the XT.
Also this is confirmed by users of the German board... bug or "proprietary feature" is still in debate...

A workaround would have been to copy the old/previous 2.9 GarminDevice.xml onto a folder named [Garmin] on a thumb drive and use this as an "Avatar" on your PC/laptop, cause with this present the GE 7.4.0.0. still offers [install maps on computer]...

In such times I'm pretty happy to still run my old Quest-I ...

OK, the Germans found a way to do a firmware rollback...
I could create a translation if there is interest...

I'm not sure what you're saying is wrong with the 5.90 update. Can you explain more?

I occasionally use Open Source Maps on my Zumos. The 590, 595 and XT allow you to have many different maps in memory, and they appear in the MyMaps menu. you can turn on or off whichever maps you want to use.
The OSM maps worked perfectly and provide much more detail, and would navigate just like the Garmin maps. Their biggest draw back is that there is no road speed limit information, which makes their ETA calculations to be well wide of the mark.
Since the 5.90 update, if OSM maps are active and a new destination is entered, or a route is loaded for navigation, the Zumo XT puts a message on the screen which says 'Cannot Calculate Route'.

Always interested in that sort if stuff - please. Original German would do. Google translate is always available !

John Heath, try using Basecamp to install the maps.
Chris

I tried that a long time ago and failed. I haven't tried since. I thought the facility had disappeared, so didn't bother. I'll have another look. I may need to come back to you on this one, please.

Alright, you asked for it ;)

1. Backup erstellen - Das Garmin ist nach dem Einspielen Jungfräulich
Firmware besorgen die man installieren will. Eine Möglichkeit ist z.B. aus dem Garmin Express Verzeichnis sich die Datei zu holen: C:\ProgramData\Garmin\CoreService\Downloads\PrimaryFirmware . Für die 2.90 Firmware wäre das -> C:\ProgramData\Garmin\CoreService\Downloads\PrimaryFirmware\PrimaryFirmware_PrimaryFirmware.006-B3484-00.2.90\gsup\006-B3484-00\2.90
7. A03 Recover from Software Failure
8. Im Nächsten Menü B02 -> Update from SD Card
9. Update prozess startet - Dauer kein 5 Minuten

Viel Erfolg !
hope this helps...

Vielen Dank !
Don't mention it...

The whole issue however raises legal questions about actual ownership (just like with smartphones...)
I mean are the satnavs now only leased or purchased by the customer?
Since it is the latter, you should be able to choose freely which firmware version or which map material/version you're prefer/using on it...

Legally you own the physical device, but all firmware and software are licensed to you. That license has distinct limitations on how you can use it. You do not have to upgrade to the latest versions of any software and there is no requirement for a developer to create the ability to revert back to older versions. We have seen this issue with many suppliers.

FYI, Beta Firmware (6.02) is out, seems to have cured the routing issues on OSM maps...
