I'm a 2~3 BTW...

G'Day,

-2°/10°C today... sunny, WX mentioned something about harmless clouds... whatever those are... maybe a way to calm down those conspiracy theorists...

Monday... office... hmph...

Busy Sunday through...
Dropped my trusty Toyota at a friend's workshop, new windscreen (crack now 4" long) and refurbing/repainting the entire hood/bonnet...
After 3 decades the seam sealer has hardened, the gap between skin and frame starts to show some corrosion...
He's going to clean all out and treat with his old-timer recipes which seep into the hidden gaps and cavities...
and looking at the +300,000km pebble hits at the "nose area" he just mumbled "I'll do the whole thing..."

Got his Hyundai i30 estate rental for the week... 6-gear, manual, Diesel...
Drove ze GF to the shed for picking up her NT700VA, she reacted kinda impressed by remarking:

"...IT'S SURE KINDA LOUD, ISN'T IT...?!" :shout1:

Yeah, she got that right... already at 80kph/50mph we've noise levels exceeding those in the Toyota at 160kph/100pmh by far... ;)
But I'd say a bad drive is still better then a good walk...
Dash and instruments are rather classical, everything is placed where you'd grope for it while blindfolded...

Being a "rental" the little car is obviously not loved...
Already fixed the tire inflation this morning; RF was at 2.5bar , the rest anywhere between 2.2 to 1,9... now 1.8 on all 4... vastly improved handling now...
Will get the thing washed and vacuum the interior too... hate messy cars and can't see though those dirtied windows and rear-view mirrors...

GF happy having access to her NT, me happy observing how well she now handles the pannier lids, closing effortless with one hand... click!...
She also mentioned inserting turning and retrieving the key being very smooth...

Anyway, enjoy your start into the week...

good morning all. 54F on the dog walk with a group of clouds moving in to blanket the sky. there wasn't a lot of openings to view the stars but still a nice walk.
got gym today so that kills the morning but the afternoon is free. the high is only to be 61F so I could dust off the ST with a little ride. enjoy the day. oh thanks for the coffee

stay safe

Thx Martin!

6˚c/43f, overcast, grey and a 25mph wind from the ocean.

Brainfogged today….two social gatherings in a row is too much.

Bicycling to get something for dinner in a bit.
Choir practise later, perhaps the fog has cleared by then.

Have a better one!
Stu

Morning all, beautiful blue skies here in Gloucestershire for the third day in a row. Hard frost last night but warming up nicely now, expected high of 10c. Took my daughter's hound out for a walk and coffee yesterday (we got bacon butties too, she got a doggie sausage) but we ended up walking for about 2½ hours. According to my daughter when she got home last night doggie was 'pooped'.... she wasn't the only one.... so much for being fit

Today... not sure.... might give the lawns a first trim... or might not, might change the rear pads on the outfit...or might not.......

What I will do is finish this coffee I'm drinking :)

Good morning, and thanks for the coffee start, Martin.

It's 12f/-11c and sunny in MA, rising to 31f/0c, later

I'll hit the gym in a bit, and then hang the panel that I bought, yesterday, in the cellar.
I also bought a set of blinds for the attic window, that I'll install. That should help with heat there in the summer.

Enjoy the day,
Steve

Good morning everyone

Thanks for the coffee Martin. I'll have a 2 1/2, please. Ahhhhhh....

It's 27°F, sunny, and calm in Rockville today. Later it'll still be sunny and might be around 42. Seasonal, for sure.

I've put them off but today I'll do the taxes. What better way to observe a Monday, after all? I'm very curious to see the numbers, actually, as I had a strategy last year and want to see how close I got to the target. I'm hoping there's at least a little more space below the ceiling, to where I could produce a little more income without coloring outside the lines. We'll see. It's also possible that the ceiling will change in 2025, or disappear altogether. As the undertaker said at the open-casket funeral, "Remains to be seen."

Stay safe and well everyone and tell your dear ones you love them.

Takes no time for coffee to lose the hot, out here at 38°. Grip heaters on 2 of 5, and I'll just have to drink the Black Rifle and little faster. Thanks for the Dial-A-Brew, Martin.

Why is it a new week already? I really was enjoying Weekend Mode. Darn it.

Highs in the 60s, might rain tomorrow, so I have at least one more riding day for now. Storms expected Wednesday, bummer.

The BMW is losing almost 10psi overnight in bthe rear, but the air isn't showing yet. Gotta schedule my tire change with Kerry this week. About 14k miles, almost all pavement, on the OEM takeoff, but the front is toast too.

Took the ST battery off the Tender, 13.44 with no load. But I had to connect cables to the Civic battery as not to wear out the battery, it kept spinning but forgot how to start. Finally did, and sounded beautiful. Successive starts were normal, but it let me know i failed it by letting it sit for 4 months.

And now for my last cup, get Kaiser in the trailer, and away we go.

Go your own way, sings Lindsey Buckingham. Nice song to leave with you.

Well into my second cup, I can now safely commingle with other humans...okay, MOST humans. 20F/-7C when I rolled out of bed. Supposed to climb up to about 45F. Got the garage heater running to do some work in there, including futzing with the turn signal and the relay on my 1100 as it is still wonky after spraying, nay FLOODING the switch with contact cleaner. I think it may just be wore out or gave up, dunno, but I'm tired of using my arm for signalling like I'm riding my bicycle every time it has a stroke. Very uncool.

Gotta get back to it. Take care y'all!

I store a can of HVAC grade leak detection spray on the shelf at the tire machine...
SOP to use that on the bead (both sides) and valve/stem after installing a tire...
Also greatly helps locating a puncture...

You reminded me that I need to address the lack of sound when the horn button is pressed on the VFR.
It's still winter here, so I have a little time.

Well. it's definitely a Monday. As I started to gather the documents for my taxes:

  • I learned that the company that has managed (held) my company stock has handed off part of it to another firm
  • I do not yet have an online account with that other firm
  • When I tried to establish one I ran into a roadblock in the form of a non-functioning user account creation help line.
    • The automated system answers and says. eventually, "Please hold for the next available representative".
    • Eventually it seems to ring through off of hold but all I hear is one ring and then dead air. So, no joy on that front.
    • Fortunately, my 1099-DIV for the stock affected by that change in management companies arrived by mail so I don't urgently need to do something about the new account but I will eventually, when I want to sell shares.
    • Actually, since I sold some of those shares last year I think I DO need to get that account problem cleared up today.
  • I went to scan the aforementioned 1099-DIV and my system couldn't connect to the scanner.
    • I recall that the stupid Windows Fax & Scan accessory can't deal with a VPN- I had this problem the last time I tried to use it.
    • When I went to try to open the VPN software to shut it down, (actually, a shell program that in turn launches the VPN manager), the shell manager wouldn't open. I can see the process start but there's no user interface displayed, so now I have yet another gremlin to get sorted out before I can proceed with the original task of tax form preparation.
    • I've downloaded and reinstalled the offending security management product, and must now reboot the machine.
  • All of this is, I suspect, related to the Windows 10 update that was applied over the weekend.

ARRRRRRGGGGGGGHHHHHHH. I hate Mondays, I hate computer problems, and I HATE doing my taxes. Not because of the taxation per se but because EVERY year it presents a similar string of hurdles, barriers, obstructions, and irritating problems that inevitably turn what should be a relatively straightforward process into a nightmare saga.

Morning all! Grey and overcast here, currently 7c with a predicted high of 10C. Rain this morning and, allegedly, sun later this afternoon.

Last night was a bit of a gong show, between dogs needing to go out and an earthquake it was a bit of an adventure and I am dragging this morning. The quake was apparently 4.5. First one I have ever been in. Shook the house for a bit but didn't last very long.

At some point, after having taken dogs out several times, I had the bright idea to put the older dog, who seems to feel the need to pace the house all night, into the ensuite. I figured it would keep her contained and she couldn't get into trouble, if she had an accident, it would be on tile floor so easy to clean up. What I hadn't reckoned with was the combo; she did do her business, both types, and then paced around the bathroom smearing and dragging it everywhere. The redolent odour of feces marinated in urine greeted me this morning and both dog and bathroom required a good scouring. Those 3 am ideas leave much to be desired sometimes. However, got everything, and everyone, cleaned up and no one was killed, so I'll count that as partial win :D.

Back to work today. Brutal commute from the kitchen to the dining room, traffic is backed up due to sleeping dogs. I'd let them lie but I'd rather have the truth.....did I mention the sleep deprivation?

Hope everyone has a great day and may all your shakes be the drinkable kind!

Good morning , I can relate Weiselinsuit, senior dogs can be a nuisance, last night, Precious peed right in front of me in the Kitchen. Any way guess I will have to get over that. Our critters are all over 14 years old which is a record for me. Today's agenda, Thank Martin for coffee and STinner for comics, oh yeah insurance renewal on my utility trailer, and some grocery shopping, and find a new accessory belt for the Mazda 2 while checking light problem spotted cracking belt.Ugh.
Cloudy 6 C high of 10 by 2 pm according to iPhone, have not gone outside yet. Not dressed for outside yet.
Well best get at it, Have good day y'all,G

Aaaaaand, after all that travail and struggle:
  • Even after downloading and reinstalling my third-party computer security app it didn't work, until I tried running it in Administrator mode, at which point the user interface works again. I have no idea what has happened to cause it not to work when run as a normal user (actually my login has Administrator privileges anyhow) but there it is, and now I know. Will I remember, next time? That's an entirely different question. A half hour, lost.
  • I have finally bludgeoned Windows into seeing and acknowledging the scanner, after an hour and a half of futzing.
    • The dang thing is right where it's been - physically and logically on the network - for a decade, I don't understand what happens in Windows to cause it to forget.
    • The only "solution" to the impasse is to reinstall the printer drivers (now more than a decade old; old enough that the installer fails partway through but happily after whatever critical step to reconnect the thing has been completed)
    • I have scanned the document I needed to scan.
  • I have also finally penetrated the user account log jam at the company that holds and manages my employee stock, after another half hour or more of trying.
    • It took a while to ferret out a phone number other than the non-functioning one but I finally managed to find one.
    • The pleasant woman to whom my call was eventually routed was quite capable and efficient. After confirming my identity she was able to provide the information I needed to log in to the new site, and also to reset the login info and provide it to me over the phone. Well Done, Yvette!
  • When I logged in to the new stock site (another 30 minutes)
    • I had to do preliminary account setup, profile, and preferences. No big deal
    • The site wants me to download and configure their mobile app, for added security. No problem. Or so I thought.
    • The app wants me to generate and scan a QR code to register my device. That of course requires that the app have access to the phone's camera. Again, no problem. EXCEPT:
    • It doesn't work. It never manages to actually scan the QR code, either on the computer screen or printed out. So, the app is utterly useless.
    • They do at least provide an "I do not have a smart phone" accommodation (which ironically still requires a phone capable of receiving text messages) in the form of a one-time PIN each time I log onto the website. Better than nothing, I suppose, but there went another 20 minutes of time fruitlessly trying to make the app work.
  • to download the 1099B (sale of stock) I found that they have filed an extension and the dang thing won't be available for another two weeks. So, all of the difficulty and angst and drama and frustration I've had so far today (three-plus hour's worth), while not exactly for naught, haven't left me in a position to actually do my taxes today after all.
Deep, heavy sigh.

Isn't technology wonderful? I rather think not.

It's time to uke. Or puke. Not sure which.

Sorry for your tech travails, Keith, but this has been my life for most of my IT career.
I put the LOL emoji simply because you have a knack for making it sound humorous, but from personal experience, I rarely find it funny whilst dealing with it.
And I am sooooo tired of 2FA on everything. You can't even use a computer to log into anything, unless you have your phone ready at hand.
We call this first-world problems, but sometimes I feel... (like I've been tied, to the whipping post... no, just another good song tripping through the neurons) as I was saying, sometimes I feel like I'd rather have a horse and a barn, a pump handle at the kitchen sink, and an outhouse.
Life would be harder, but simpler, if that makes sense.
But here we are.

Late Morning/Early Afternoon, with grey skies and dropping white stuff on us, in Southern Utah!

Currently it's 34F, up from 28F and heading for 39F, with snow falling for the last three hours. Thank goodness, it's not sticking, yet! The winds are blowing from the SSW @ 6 to 12mph, and later, up to 18mph. The snow should last for the next couple of hours, but I don't expect to see it stick at all.

This morning, Chris and I had to run after some eggs. Chris has a gal that sells them for $4 a dozen and Chris doesn't get sick when she eats them, like she does with store bought eggs.

I've turned on the heater in the garage, and I might make it out there to work on the AZ 05, maybe... :cautious:

Boiled eggs, bacon, toast & OJ to start the morning. Pepsi(s) in a bit.

Anyone :bl13: , have a great day on the roads! :hat3:

Thanks- I do try to inject a humorous overtone so that it's not just me whining and whining and whiiiiiiiining... besides, if I couldn't laugh at it I'd break stuff and that gets expensive.

sometimes I feel... (like I've been tied, to the whipping post...

Well played! I like it.
