Lone wolf or group rider?

I'm easy either way, solo, groups of 2 to 8 are nice. In a group I like 2 because you get to sit down over coffee/lunch and have a real good natter 1 on 1 and get to know the person as a friend.

That said, the most enjoyable tour I've done was on my own, 2 weeks in the South Island stopping at Backpackers and a couple of friends.
I fitted in a bit of hiking around Mt Cook and stopped at a few scenic spots but the best part just riding my bike where it was meant to go. :poPoST1:

My bike is my primary transportation from April until November or whenever the snow stays on the ground. I ride it to and from work and back and forth to coach MSF classes on most of my days off by myself. My wife has her own bike and we go for a joy ride or grocery shopping together probably once a week.I try to go on one cross country trip each year in October by myself or with my son if he can get the time off.

I have tried riding in groups and just felt uncomfortable for the most part. not sure how to describe it but maybe awkward? I just ride alone.

Mostly by myself for local day rides. Years ago I joined a motorcycle riding club thinking that I would not only meet fellow bikers but maybe I would also discover good motorcycle roads in my area that I wasn't aware of. I went on three or four rides with them- about 15 to 20 bikes each time. I discovered that they didn't know any routes that I didn't already know which was OK. The problem was I would do these rides with a friend or two leaving at 9:00 am and be back at home by about 4:00 pm. These guys would do the exact same route leaving at 9:00 and God only knows what time they got back- I left them at 7:00 pm because I couldn't take it anymore and headed home by myself. They spent more time on gas breaks, coffee brakes, leg stretching breaks, using the cell phone breaks, etc. then they did riding. The last straw was the 2 1/2 hour lunch brake. If you want to join a social club to socialize that is fine, but don't create a social club and call it a motorcycle riding club! That was the end of large group rides for me. Several years later I was asked to rejoin the group. Apparently they had had a change in leadership because there were many complaints from the members about the very same thing. I declined to return.

Long motorcycle vacations I like to have a companion along not only to share the experience and the expense of the Motels with but also for the just in case factor as well. On these rides it only two of us- no large groups. If no one is available I have no problem going by myself either.
I joined several meetup.com groups for the same reason and it's crazy how many "motorcycle groups" on there spend 90% of the time socializing and 10% actually riding. . .
