Hi
Just got a 2010 ST1300. Its all working great.

When I use the kickstand (side stand here in the UK) the bike leans over way more than it feels it should and far more than any other bike I have owned. Scary as it feels like its going to topple over.

The picture is of the kickstand on my bike andshows its measurement. It may be that the kick stand on the bike is incorrect and is too short. Can any owner send me a measurement from the centre of the mounting bolt to the end of the stand (like the one in the picture) so I can confirm whether my stand is correct ?

Many thanks in advance
Chazza

Looks normal unless mine was altered before I got it. I've got about 8.5" from the pivot to the middle of the foot.
Show us a picture of it on it's side stand so we can compare.
I like how mine sits when on it's side stand. When the wind blows strong, you don't want it to topple over.

PO reached into side pocket and handed me a 3/4 plywood coupon attached to a string, and said "there will be times you will need this"
Its been handy more than a couple times. Definitely a must have for this bike.

Welcome to the site, also from West Yorkshire.

Congratulations on your new ST. That stand and the centre stand look pristine. That hasn't seen much use on Yorkshire roads !

I cant give you that measurement at the moment, but when the bike is on the centre stand, with the sidestand down, the distance from the base of the stand to the ground is 10cm. measured from the side of the baseplate furthest away from you. This figure is unaffected by rear suspension.

Just as an aside, there was no 2010 model in the UK. Check the label under the seat. It will probably say ST1300A9 (2009 model). You need to know that if you ever need to order parts.
That isn't an issue - they kept the same model version from 2009 to 2013. My 2013 built model is also an A9.

The height of the bike is one factor..... upgraded suspension or rear preload up and upgraded fork springs will increase lean angle, as the bike doesn't "sag" as much. Higher profile tire will also.
If you feel it can stand a slight loss of ground clearance, raise the forks in the triple clamp 10mm or thereabouts. You'll gain half that at the kickstand, and the side effect is the bike should handle better as well.
I'd also suggest removing the side stand and checking the "clevis" is not spread from normal use over time, snug it up in a vice, ensure the pivot bolt is clamping it properly.
If that doesn't "fix" it, then make or install a kickstand foot that in effect makes the sidestand longer. To fix my CBF1000, the homemade kickstand foot is 3/8"/10mm thick. The foot will keep you from needing that piece of plywood in the softer/uneven ground.

Paul, did you get a 1300? Say it ain't so.
Sort of... due to some unexpected circumstances, I'm "test" riding an '07 ST13. I'll post up some details depending on how it works out.

beside it looks like a 1974 Pinto Wagon:run1:
Ha, definitely not... doubt there are any Pintos on the road anymore! One side is a 2019 Subaru Crosstrek and the other is a 1987 BMW 325.

Yes, the lean angle on my 1300 has always made me nervous....
I carry a small square of wood, with a string attached to it, in my side pocket and put it under the sidestand when parking.
I stick the string under the left grip, so I can easily pick up the "coupon". :confused1:

My mistake, it is a 2009 :)

Common practice among dualsport riders who may not have a "big foot" modification at the end of their sidestand. Tie a loop in the free end, to drop over some convenient area accessible from the pilot's seat.
While we don't have a mirror stalk to loop the "retrieval end" of the string upon, you can find something.
Bar end, any RAM mount you may have, stick it in the fairing pocket and shut the door on it, just something so that you don't have to bend over to pick it up while sitting on the bike. Now, THAT would be an extreme balancing act. One which I would not be willing to attempt.
