I was reading a post by Capt Gruuvy and thinking to myself, as I always do when he posts, "what the heck is he talking about?".

He said he was wanting the Joe Rocket Manta Magnetic Tank Bag. Others here have also mentioned it but not as much as some other bags.

So, I take a look at it at the NewEnough site.

I previously sold my Cortech Super-Mini Tank Bag as was thinking that was a mistake.

After looking at this one I decided to pull the trigger especially since it's over $20 cheaper.

The price is about $40 but you'll have to click the link on the webpage to get the most current pricing.

This is a very narrow bag. My Super-Mini would still honk the horn if it was too far forward, during a left hand parking lot turn.

This one, as you can see by the pic, won't touch at all.

It has a cell phone pocket but I'll probably just put extra ear plugs, small flashlight, etc there...
it will fit the gen II spot if you'd like to use it for that or a cell phone.

It has 3 very strong magnets and a rain cover.

Anyway, I give this one three

That same bag is offered as an accessory for the ST with the Honda logo on it . It comes in black or black and red as color options .

I have several larger tank bags and on my 4,000 mile trip last month, I opted for the Manta. It held everything that I needed right where I needed. The main compartment holds a 2 liter "camelbak" wannabe that I picked up at Wally world for $18. My camera and MP3 player fit in the closest pocket. The top pocket held earplugs and a travel tissue pack.

Very functional and well made. Two thumbs up!

I bought mine from a fellow member and think it is great! It holds all my goodies at arms length. I keep my Canon P&S in the front pocket and snap pics while riding when I can do so safely. I keep my EZ-Pass in the clear phone pocket. I'm glad I bought it! :)

How does it do in the rain? Does it need a cover.

I have been using the Manta for about 4 years. It came with a rain cover but I have never used it. It holds a surprising amount of stuff. Cell phone, camera, small binoculars etc. I have never had anything get wet even on daylong rides in the rain.:04biker:

Kinda looks more orca shaped than a manta....but that's very neat. I STill have a Cortech mini I like, but that would be very neat as well. Thanks for the pics.

My Versys came with a Manta bag courtesy of the PO. Handy for those times when I want a tank bag, which honestly isn't that often. Magnets have good staying power.

I too have the Manta - about 18 months now. It is a bit faded from the sun during the day at work; however, it remains very functional and no problems have developed.

I have strapped my Camelback Unibottle 70 oz across the top of the Manta using the front and rear plastic rings - it works quite nicely.

I have also clipped my Sansa Clip on the rear plastic ring - it's a great spot and almost seems like it is made for it.

I also place my ID in the rear zip pocket when accessing the military installation for quick access - it too works great for the purpose.

Edit - I also place my PikePass in the top zipper pocket, the pass works great in that location.

Highly recommend it for many reasons!

I bought the XL version about 3 weeks ago. Liking it! Magnets stick very well! It fits the ST nicely without getting in the way. Marty

I too have had one for a few years. The cell phone holder worked great for the SPOT LOCATER while I was carrying the Pony Express bag. I have mine set up with an elec plug & keep my phone charging in the lower section. The black color has begun to fade a little, but, ya gotta love the Manta!

Does "...without getting in the way..." mean you can turn the left handle bar to the left "full lock" and not hit the horn against the bag?

You are correct...full lock either way does not interfere with the bag/bars or inadvertently activate the stebel in the garage!

I'm looking for a new tank bag. I have the Cortech super mini and don't like it.
Problem: it doesn't hold its shape when unzipped so that when it's opened everything wants to fall out. How does the Manta do in this respect.

John-

Yep, great bag. Used it now on several bikes. Holds well and love the cellphone pocket. Don't use it as often on the ST since I purchased a RAM mount for the phone. Wife originally bought it for her but got a custom bib that she designed. Inherited it and found I liked it.
