Is Motorcycle Armour useless?

Past a certain point it's going to be about reduction of severity of injury v. prevention of injury. That threshold is pretty low. On the other end of the scale, there is a point where it won't matter how much armour, airbags or mutant ability or rabbits feet you have, you're going to be either severely injured or more likely dead.

Gear will help with severity reduction. The only thing that will cut across both those categories, i.e., prevent any injury or serious injury or death, is using your brain to identify potential injury situations and take action to avoid getting into situations where injury, regardless of severity, or death can't be prevented or at least the risk reduced.

When you've gone off the road at 70+ mph and walked away from it...well, after they airlifted me out to another state...the value of armour and good gear is no longer theoretical.

I don't take advice or watch internet bozos.
I know real life experience. Common sense is anything extra is better.
Back in the 80s, I went down with a thick fleece lined Levi's jacket with a thick sweatshirt underneath.
Tore up the jacket pretty good but no road rash.
I know armor works also.

Perfect? - Nothing
Armor? - Useful
No Armor? - Useless
Like, totally, dude.
Each to his own, as always, but I'm going to do all I can to stack the odds in my favor.
Well, except to quit riding.
And in the future, I'm likely to inVEST in an airbag vest. So many choices. And so costly, at this time...

Check out the AlpineStars new Tech 5. So cool, but not cheap

FWIW, I've been wearing armor for around 35 years, and while I've never high-sided, I can't think of a single time I've had an off where I've regretted wearing it. A lot has changed in that time, and protection is getting better and better. I'm not a gear nazi, however, I do hope that airbags become more common as a result of them being less expensive. Even an inexpensive visit to the hospital is a lot more than the cost of an airbag, and if I'm lucky enough, I'd rather spend the extra time riding than healing ;) There is a reason they are now required in MotoGP and World Superbike... sure they are going much faster, but everyone is going in the same direction, and they don't have cars, deer, immovable obstacles, etc. to contend with. That tech trickles down to us, and the latest generation of airbag gear from companies like Dainese and Alpinestars is already quite sophisticated and provide a high level of protection.
