I am afraid it is the next level of recording one’s ride.
Maybe for survailling a mile or two of road for LEOs for a brief speed run.
Notice it’s a sport bike.
I am sure that as every vehicle attains one of these for the purpose of seeing “where the traffic jams ends” while Amazon is delivering millions of packages there won’t be another problem created.
Might be time for an asteroid.
Then we can work our way back to the pinnacle of technology again, the ST1300, maybe even improve on it.
And if someone comes up with this drone idea, it’s time to start over again.

Most agree. My thought is that more and more riding footage is popping up on YouTube and the article states at the end:

"Honda’s electric motorcycle-mounted drone idea is surely a bit pie in the sky, but perhaps they are just trying to lockdown the space in case the technology ever improves to the point that this could become practical."
 
I dont think drones fly as fast as a bike, or any road going vehicle. I dread the day when the roads are clogged with people going less than the speed limit so that they can stay placed under their drone, capturing the scene for the world to see.
 
I think this falls under the category of "just because you can, doesn't mean you should". Like a lot of things you see on concept vehicles, it will probably not see the light of a showroom. On top of all the drawbacks already mentioned, you will have the regulatory issues of bodies like the FAA to deal with.

That being said, I recently got a small drone that I hope mainly use to scout out off road trails in the hope to avoid those I should not go down.
 
I think this actually falls in the "Just because we can doesn't mean we will" category. At the moment it's a concept not even a concept vehicle.

It could be no more than a What If exercise that may or may not be developed in to a PR vehicle. Or Honda may actually build and sell it.

Apple has actually made working prototypes of kit that's never seen the light of day — just because they can. Sometimes the tech does surface as something that nobody thinks should exist. A watch that calls for help when you've fallen and can't get up?? A walkie-talkie built into a watch?? There's no market for that! No practical use!

Those who dare seldom do so without a dream. Whatever the reason I think we still have a little time before the End of Days wrought by Honda's drone bike.

I remember a few episodes of The Green Hornet with Van Williams and Bruce Lee that had his car – the Black Beauty – equipped with a drone referred to as a scanner that flew out a hatch in the trunk.

And now we have Noraly (and maybe a couple of others?) using one on almost a daily basis during her adventures. Part of the Selfie Generation for Those Who Think Young?

Gotta love how a bunch of Old Guys start hand wringing when some new tech is announced and immediately predict unlikely but worst case scenarios as the future. I'm sure Grog did the same when Fred Flintstone showed up with a new vehicle in his cave opening. "First Fred then it'll be Barney... Their wives will want one! Then our wives will want one! End of Days I tells ya!!"

That's entertainment!

LOL Well it takes one to know one but I do hav most of my hair and there's no Parting of the Pate quite yet! :D

Itchy Boots does this on occasion. Her drone has a follow me app. Some beautiful pictures of the terrain she is riding in.
 
I just looked at the picture again and realized what the drone is for. It hovers protectively over the bike (which is a bit closer to the lane divider than I would think prudent) and draws a bead on any cage that approaches. At the first sign of lane encroachment by the cage, BAM! the drone unleashes a 50 MEv power surge that instantly vaporizes the cage and keeps the unoffensive moto rider completely free from harm.

Audi has done this on a concept car. When requested the drones fly out in front of the car's headlight reach to light up even further down the road. In a "head's up" display vehicle, obstacle and road condition data is added to the driver's view area. Additionally, if the driver is following the on-board GPS the drones will turn at the appropriate locations and light up through the turn and beyond.

In an off road environment those forward drones would be a terrific help in finding washouts and the sort in low light situations.

Police surveillance and tracking with infra red cameras perhaps ? Just in case they can't build an electric powered full sized chopper.

Her drone may have the following feature, dunno; but she’s mentioned a number of times that she flys hers manually, even when underway. Amazing when you see the footage.
