Helmets Hjc is-33 2 compared to HJC FG-Jet

Hi everyone first post here and could use some help. I've been narrowing down to a new helmet, I was first looking at the HJC RHPA 70st but had a reality check and realized in 35 years riding I have never used a fullface and doubt I would wear one.

I've narrowed down to an open face and in particular the HJC is-33 2 or HJC FG-Jet. I have found out that the FG-JET comes in 3 shells which may be better than the is-33 2 as it has all sizes in the same shell. Both helmets have removable shields and both have drop down sunvisors.

I had just found out the is-33 2's shield can be removed and a sunvisor can be attached in its place, where as the FG-Jet's shield can be removed but shows no options available to fill the sides of the helmet basicly showing the hardware gearing.
Both helmets appear to have come on the market around the same time so its hard to tell which would be the more improved. If the FG-Jet with its 3 shells available had the sunvisor option I think it would foot the bill.

Any thoughts on these helmets would be appreciated.

The IS-33II is a polycarbonate shell, the FG-Jet is fiberglass. The IS-33 is an intermediate oval head shape, the FG-Jet is a round oval. (Most U.S. heads tend toward intermediate oval)

I just looked at the two a few weeks ago, and decided to buy the IS-33II. I had its predecessor (the original IS-33), and it was a round oval like the FG-Jet. The new version does seem to fit better (it doesn't seem to have the pressure point on my forehead like the last one).

Overall, I think the IS-33II is the better value of the two.

Bought the FG Jet for me over the IS 33 II . A better fit and finally a helmet with great air flow you can actually FEEL . Better air flow than the IS 33 II plus the shield stays in place where ever you put it. finally the drop down sun shade works well .
Tried many full face helmets but never found one I could enjoy riding with for any time. Yes I value all of my body and I still ride knowing any accident could end my life or worse at any time.

You wear whatever helmet suits you, Lynn. I'm glad to see you wearing a helmet at all... 'round these parts, there's too many people who don't wear any protection (if I had a nickel for every cruiser rider I've seen in this state in shorts and flip-flops, I'd have a pillow case full of nickels).

This forum is a good place to get information, even if you have to sift through the occasional smarmy comment.

I've not worn the FG-Jet on the road, but I can testify that the IS-33II has markedly better ventilation on my bike than my old IS-33 did. The central intake on the top of the IS-33II lines up perfectly with the airflow over the top of my V-Stream windshield, something my old helmet could never accomplish.

DeanR yes I do value my teeth etc.
When it comes to the shield I'm only interested in using it when it rains. I ride a 2016 Victory cross Country Tour so the wind really isn't an issue but I do find I've grown tired of a half helmet , or at least I think I have, at 58 young you tend view everything. An open face 3/4 would help with all the hiway riding I do , my exhaust can tire me out.
I appreciate the input on the Fg-Jet and the Is-33 2 , after doing a bit more research I now see that the Is-33 2 actually comes in two helmet shells , I would imagine a small medium and large xlarge, this is a good thing.
Seeing as I'm more interested in the drop down visor being low enough and hiding the side gearing once the shield is removed I'd like to trust that the Is-33 2 does have as good as the Fg-Jet for air venting. Up here in Northern Ontario we don't have the heat like you folks in the lower states and really I spend very little time going slow riding such as in the city.
I was kind of curious why the Fg-Jet doesn't also have the sunvisor attachment that would hide the visor gearing or if the Is-33 2 sunvisor would actually clip on the same way?

Can't answer the why's, but for my $0.02 the sun visor on the IS-33II is so small and high up as to be largely ineffective.

What I found to be helpful is to put three lines of thin electrical tape across the bottom of my clear visor. When the visor is down, the tape is below my line of sight. When the visor is up, the electrical tape becomes a way better sun visor than the attachable plastic piece ever dreamed of being.
 
I have had the FG-Jet for about 5 years, when I was looking I remember thinking the FG was just a little nicer looking and feeling helmet. It does flow air very well through the 3 top vents. The sun visor that came with it was not very dark but HJC does sell a darker visor that is adequate here in the Sunshine State. It’s still not as dark or as optically clear as a Shoei sun visor but was a good deal cheaper. I was looking to replace a Shoei 3/4 and it was just too expensive compared to the HJC which is a very good value. I wear a 3/4 maybe 10% of the time and a modular 90% so I wasn’t keen to drop $400 on one.

I had read a review just recently about the is-33ll that he actually said the visor tickled his nose, or maybe it was the FG-Jet.

Did you find the sun visor on the FG came down far enough ? I was actually thinking it wouldn't hurt to buy the darker lense with the helmet as I did read they weren't that dark. I had astually considered the Shoei 3/4 helmet but couldn't get to a shop that had them in stock to try one on for fitment and I know the HJC's I tried on were all a small fit so know I would need the large rather than the Med.

I think we're confusing terms. There's a removable plastic peak sun visor, a drop-down tinted lens, and a clear plastic face shield.
 
Anyone find any issues with the drop down tinted lens slide button getting weak on the spring or rattling?
 
The drop-down sun visor has two deployed positions, the lower one may tickle your nose depending on your anatomy. It would be easy enough to trim if that was the case. I never noticed a rattle. Shoei’s visor mechanism is much more refined but you pay for it.
 
Got my HJC is-33 today, wife says I look like a Martian, thanks. Anyway went out on the hiway with shield off as I only need the shield for the rain. So I'm one size larger than the size chart says I should have , read they were a small size plus I tried a medium in the shop and it was tight. I find this helmet very snug on my jaw , does the helmet loosen up over time and how long if Yes? Ok edit, I don't think I can wear this, just feels too snug or something, its a relief when I take it off.
