High rpms at cold start st1300 ?

If the thermostat is working properly you should be able to keep a hand on the radiator for a couple of minutes after starting and have it stay basically stone cold then suddenly get too hot to touch.

I'll try that, thanks Have only been touching the hose to the Wax Unit so far. Cold for a long time and hot all of sudden, and then the Wax Unit activates.

As you may know the other three SVs get synchronised to the reference SV so that the vacuum in the intakes is balanced when the engine is warmed up ...

Vaguely remember, Synched my 03 20 years ago. I need to synch this 2012, it is kind of a sleeper compared to the old 03 and maybe the synching will help.
The "sleeping" may also come from the PO riding with his wife in "sleeper" mode, it may just be in need of a good Italian tune up (and Mystery Oil).

..... You should only be able to move the linkage to open the valves further as the wax unit nut would stop you closing the valves, unless the wax unit is already in the hot position. When the wax unit is hot (the shaft has extended) then you can easily move the starter valves to open them further.

Excuse my nonsense: It is in fact moving the linkage to open the ports as you say (like pushing the choke back).

There is a video on the VFRs starter valves that I found pretty useful.

Very useful. Thanks!

My 07 started doing something like a few months ago but only when it's around 40F outside. In the last few weeks the morning temps have been anywhere from 37F to 57F and I noticed it only happens when it's around 40F or below.
It starts at a normal high idle for maybe 10 seconds then increases to 2500 to 3000 RPM over probably 30 seconds or so as I'm getting my helmet and gloves on. It will stay at that high idle for probably 2 minutes before dropping to a normal warm idle. I do wait until it drops down before I take off.
It's weird to me because it's stored in my garage (attached to the house and somewhat temperature controlled) overnight and started probably 30 seconds after I back it out into the driveway. I wouldn't think the cold air could affect it that fast.

Same trend here. Get to 3000 RPM on a warm day, and now with snow falling here in Houston, it pushes up to 4000.

One thing on mine, once it gets to the high RPMs, I can shut it off for a few minutes, and on restart it goes down to about 2000 and then slowly down to idle. Could be some temp equalization taking place while shut off (or just the time it takes for a binding T-Stat to creep open).
