Going slow

Gosh, I'm 72! Is that what awaits me in two years?!?!?

Chris
Lol not necessarily..... some people never ummm ..... get old?

I know of a guy older than me that rides one of those 200 hp BMW's . Doesn't ride slow either. Then again I've had 3 buddies younger than me, give up riding cause they said they were too old to keep riding.

Like the phlebotomist told me last time I rode in for bloodwork and walked in wearing my motorcycle gear " some guys your age are still riding motorcycles while others your age are riding walkers".

We all age differently, and in our own way

I've always enjoyed a sedate pace. It reminds me of various avians floating on thermals with nary a wing flap. So there's not a lot of slowing down on my part. That's what's known as 'stopping'. But it could be time for a lighter bike. Still working on the quads.

On my two long-ish trips (rides to MT) we whipped through some gorgeous county. So I'm told. I asked my buddies so slow a bit so I could enjoy the scenery. Turns out sight-seeing wasn't really high on the todo list. It was a lot like

So fast is fun but not as much fun as appreciating the landscape while it lasts.
It's fun to do both. The roads where I am enjoying slowing down are ones I've hauled butt down dozens of times and that gets boring even though they're great roads.

If I was traveling to a place I'd never been before and there was great scenery, I'm sure I wouldn't want it to be going by in a blur, either.

No...I'll start with saying "To each his own..." But I dont get some guys who will only do one flavor of riding... thats cool, but not for me.
For multi decades, I have had several bikes for different dutys... and always one to go fast, hair on fire in the twistys, sometimes one for distance with some sport thrown in,
off and on a dirt focus bike.... and then the gotta have... the laid back, easy slacker cruiser for 40mph in the local backroad woods. (I probably was a teen the last time I only had one bike)

Sometimes you feel like a nut, sometimes you dont...
I have the Blackbird for hooning about.) I don't ever plan to sell it, because it's just such a hoot to ride. The ST is my old man bike. I do need a couple more bikes for different duties.

I know too many people who give up on riding because they don't take care of their health and can't even get a leg over a bike anymore. Others lose their health through no doing of their own. I'm trying to get in as much riding as I can while I still can and will get a 3-wheeler if there comes a time when I can't balance well anymore. I'm convinced that riding will keep me young at heart.

I've been hanging out with a group of bike enthusiasts at a local coffee shop since I got back in the saddle last summer.
These guys all have sport bikes and some brag about how fast they take highway ramps & how quickly they can get to destinations.
They are a good bunch for the most part but I never went on group rides because I knew that I couldn't keep up with them on my VStar 650.

This August, I moved up to the ST 1300 and now have one of the fastest bikes in the group except for the Aprilias & other 1+ liter superbikes.
I still won't ride with them since several have gone down this year due to excessive speed every time & thankfully weren't killed or permanently injured.
Many are in their 50s and 60s but think they are still in their 20s and NEVER ride on a track... I only know of one who has a track bike & I don't believe he's ever done a group ride.
I like my life, licence and insurance rate to remain intact... & besides, my wife will kill me if I dump the bike!

Riding in traffic, I pretty much conform with the general flow which varies with time of day. Morning rush two-hours is more hazardous than going home time traffic. My general rule in traffic is 'don't be the speed bump'. That aside, I have embarrassed more than a few gofast drivers on both the 1100 and 1300. 'There's a time for every purpose under Heaven....'
