I have several relatives who took the 'left' path.
Puns aside......Way back during the renaissance, some wealthy families would send their idiot children to certain Italian universities which would basically babysit them for a large fee. Attend or even pass? No worry, they got a diploma anyway. It was referred to as an 'Italian Education'.
Apparently some of our ivy league colleges are doing similar these days.
