Finally - Race Tech Fork Caps

If anyone is planning to be at Death Valley STOC, CalSTOC, or SeaSTOC, you can check my Race Tech factory installed fork caps...but you really can't see anything more than just the caps. They are adjusted with four clicks on both compression and rebound which was the way I got it from Race Tech. You'd be welcome to take the Steed for a spin to test them out. Frankly, I haven't played with them yet, but we could try maximizing and then minimizing them just to see the effect. I mean, what's the purpose of having adjustable shocks...if you never adjust them? I'm sure with all the great minds and talent at these three events, a perfect setting could be found...which maybe four clicks and maybe not.

Hmm, so we have only 3 ST1300 with these?

  1. John Gardner (jnsgardner)
  2. Roger Willis (indypup)
  3. Rob Hephner

I adjust mine all the time depending on road conditions and bike load. Their adjustability came in handy this past summer going to Alaska on the ruff roads. ;) I have a small screwdriver in my tank and adjusted them going down the road. ;)

Almost as good as the ESA (Electronic Suspension Adjustment) on the beamer... :D

2 reasons, one as Indypup said, you might change compression setting when you have a heavier load or are on a freeway for a long time. The other is that over time oil breaks down and flows easier.

This is not what I'd call a do it yourself kit as if you mess up drilling the factory parts you're screwed.

is there an installation guide I can have a look at anywhere?

being in the UK DIY is the only option and I am up for most things but would like to have a good idea what I am letting myself in for. if its just opening up existing holes then that wouldnt worry me at all.

would be nice to have a set of these on this side of the pond :)

Drop the folks at Race Tech a line. The kit does come with directions.

I had Racetech do everything for me. I just took the forks off the bike and shipped them to California. Cost me about $50 bucks in shipping...

So, if I don't want to do any drilling, can I just send them my fork tubes and have them do the work? Or does this come as the "drop-in cartridge" on their site?

You'll need to send your forks complete, not just the tubes themselves as there are no "drop-in" parts.

I don't know how I missed this thread. I already have the Gold Valves installed so I guess I need to contact RaceTech to see what parts and cost for me to complete the forks.

I just picked-up my ST yesterday from RaceTech--new shock in the rear, and full assembly to the front. Loaded the bike into the trailer and drove three hours back home.

Unfortunately, when I got home, I saw my Canyon Dancer handlebar strap had snapped the right side bar end weight off--crap!!

Now I've got to wait another week before I can enjoy the new suspension experience! :(

I'll have a ride report soon.

Thumper,

You shouldn't have to wait a week. I'm sure the Steed wouldn't mind going for a ride with just one bar end weight. I've had the fork cap modification since July and I've been happy with 4 clicks on both rebound (right..r-r memoric) and compression (left)
Actually, it might take a week to get the broken off stud out of the handlebar end. They do have easy-outs that small, but hopefully there is still a stub to grab onto with a Vise-Grip.

I inquired about getting just the caps. I figure that many of us with the old valve upgrade wouldn't mind preload adjustable forks for cheap. Response:
"Yes you can purchase jus the caps with out the valve kit. The part number is FAFC 4210001 $249.99, It looks like they may be backordered however."
Ow. A loyalty price break or decent group discount would put me on the list for sure.
