I have read all the posts related to final drive lubrication and don't mean to start another "discussion".

Being unable to source anything locally (Dubai) even from Honda, I will order online in USA and get it shipped.

I have decided to go for Moly Paste (60% or higher) , can anyone suggest a brand that I should be looking for (other than Honda) , also if anyone can recomend a good supplier who I can access online that would be great (ie other than Ebay, Amazon)

Seeing as I'm now having to do a USA order, I may as aswell get my consumable parts from there also (they are extortionately priced locally), can anyone recommend good online suppliers of new genuine honda parts for ST1100

It would be nice to have one USA supplier who becomes my go-to shop for everything but that is probably me just dreaming

Rocol dry moly paste part number 10040. Igofar approved 'cuz it was listed in the Factory Service Manual as an authorized sub (I'm sure I read that somewhere...;). Note, that you can buy from Bike-Quip out of the UK for cheaper than the USA source. Bike-Quip buys the big can and then weighs out 100g and passes the savings on to you. :thumb: Or you can buy from Starlight. I did both 'cuz, well it's MOLY!!! And you can't be too safe! :rofl1:

Oh, and I use Babbitts for my factory parts source. Your mileage may vary.

:nuke1:bring it on, I'm ready:nanana1:

Seen another...

Ronayers.com usually has very good prices for OEM ST1100 parts. At least, I have had good luck with them...

Both of these products will meet you requirements. Not the cheapest, but a good product designed for splines.

Would you care to share the actual Moly content as I can't find that data anywhere?

This stuff is reasonably priced and has given me good service over the last 50K miles

Jet Lube MP-50 The link says Multipurpose grease, but if you read the can, you can see it's really moly paste. BTW, their copper anti-seize works good, too but not on splines, of course..

Jet Lube also sells Marine Moly Paste, too. It's a little cheaper, but an email from a Jet Lube sales rep said it contains less moly than the MP-50.

What good is a 4 year shelf life? My Honda Moly Paste in the 1" diameter by about 5" long tube is 7 years old already, and will probably last me until i die. Plenty of guys here have tubes of this stuff that are pushing 20 years or more. FOUR YEARS? Sounds to me like a ploy like Hostess Twinkies or Coke saying eat/drink within one year....

Are you using M-77 Paste? This is manufactured by Dow Corning for Honda OEM and it states Shelf Life is 36 months:

Tech Data Sheet M-77 Honda
second page under 'USABLE LIFE AND STORAGE'.

On a good note - there is 77% Moly, hence the name, if that is what you consider a good product based on Moly content (Same as Moly 60 before it was discontinued). I know Rocol focuses on a blend of tenacious mixture to adhere to the surfaces until dry, has a resistance to pick up contaminates and has a good high temp range. The shelf life is actually 5 years for this product...what we have currently on the shelf is 4.5 years of shelf life left, technically.

Shelf life has a lot to do with the additives and water content. To ensure the purest form of the product standard, they establish a shelf life for the consumer - Potential deposits of mold, mildew, ect. start to form after some time. Breakdown/degradation of additives lose effectiveness over time. I'm sure it is still good to use and will get the job done...

On a side note - We have the MP-50 on Amazon with the brush top (not the plug top). Popular product in the oilfield for assembly and harsh environments.

You know you've just ensured a 200 post Moly thread don't you :well1:. I'll let others enquire into the 77.
But.....with regards shelf life......if the product is stored correctly and used without contaminating the paste, then doesn't the Moly just stay the same, or does Moly itself deteriorate? I'm guessing it doesn't and the carrier soon disappears anyway in normal use. Just curious.
