Fault code 26

I promise, I can be as obstinate as they come.
However, in the end (my experience and the experience of others around here), you will find @aniwack and @Igofar are RIGHT a whole couple of metric tons more often than they are wrong.

When a part costs 1K to replace I think it’s prudent to check everything else before excepting the worst possible scenario.

IMO, it’s not about who is right or wrong.

One last thing to check. Battery. :(

I’m getting a lot of help from @Igofar. Thankfully.

Did over 200 miles on my bike today, hot weather. Got about 39 MPG at conservative highway speeds. The FI light was not on because I kept it below 4K. I think when the ECU goes bad it runs a basic get you home mode, so the engine could well knock over 4K, and the gas mileage is poor even with the ECU reset, which is also an indicator of a problem.

Installed a new ECU from Ron Ayers yesterday and the code 26 error has gone. Rode for over an hour at around 5K plus and no FI light.

Thanks to everyone who posted in this thread and especially @Igofar for the phone support! :thumb:

Yes, a police bike ST1300 ECU. Note changes were made in '08. I forget what year your bike is, an 04? if so, anything up to a 07 will work.
Does getting a police ecu mean you don't have to reprogram your keys?

Last night while riding in hot weather the bike gave fault code 26. So I read about it here and went and cleaned the five way t connector under the tank. It was not completely blocked but one port was very restricted. After reassembly and reseting the computer the engine seems a lot smoother and I now wonder what all those little pipes do. Do they effect fuel and ignition timing?

I also noticed at the time of the fault code that the bike was running a lot hotter than normal and seemed to lack power and surge a little.

I don’t know if the problem has been solved yet but the engine now sounds very nice, smooth and zippy up to 8K while on the stand. Will ride it later when its cooled down to around. 90 degrees.

The bike’s got premium fuel with up to 10% ethanol in it at the moment. I don’t like that and wonder if that has anything to do with this issue in hot weather.
I finally decided to clean my 5 way tee, next to last resort. When I got on there ,their were two 5 way tees. The small one disconnected from map sensor ,the other from black canister on right side .which one is nessacary?@@
