2001 Honda ST1100, purchased just over a year ago for my return to riding after a 20+year hiatus, 56K or so on it now. Best all around bike I've ever owned or ridden. Paid $2300.00 for it. I'll never, never buy a new bike. There are simply too many good used bikes out there that offer the same capabilities as new for 10-20% of the cost.

I know there are only 29 votes at this point, but I'm very surprised at the % of Yeses... I assumed it would be less than half of the Noes. Kudos to you guys for keeping, maintaining and riding one motorcycle for so long!

Bought my '12 in March '13. Helped open crate, took pics and video. It had .04 miles when I rode it off the lot. Working on 70K now and I love it more than day 1.

Boy, are we from the same mold! I dont need computers, chrome, farkles, or razzle dazzle. Hense, my 96 1100! I never understood spending a ton on a hobby when i could get enough for less.

A bit of a thread jack, but yes. Everyone has their version of "enough", and that's fine. Some want new, and that is "enough", we are at the other end of the spectrum. As the OP has pointed out, there is a remarkable percentage of owners that purchased new and have kept the bike long term. I believe this is because any ST just does most things very well.

And it's not like you can't add whatever you feel is missing (OK, caveat - except computerized suspension, traction control, ride modes, etc.) such as additional lighting, power outlets / chargers, seating arrangements, bars and pegs, aux fuel tanks, even cruise control.
So, yeah - a real solid platform, with very few overall weaknesses.

To be honest as I told another member on this forum. I don't want to be one of those guys who says yeah I had a ST1100 best bike I've ever owned. Should of kept it

Yeah, one, maybe two is plenty for me. Keeping 4 running would be like having 2 wives. ;)
If I had the real estate for them (i.e., covered garage) I would like to have my perfect stable of 21 different bikes.
I'm pretty sure that would be enough for me.
Because I think of this quite often...

Both of mine sat me down for a little talk. We agreed they would get the whole inside and i would get the whole outside!

OK, major thread hijack, but I gotta tell a story. Just celebrated 20yrs married, known her for 25yrs. Wonderful woman, still love her dearly. We rarely have a disagreement, and all told its been a great 20yrs. My father had a tumultuous relationship with my mother, when they split up he married my stepmother. And the two of them have been fighting like cats and dogs ever since. On time fairly recently over a beer, Dad started giving me advice in that fatherly way on how to best "keep a marriage together". After a pause, I pointed out, that he probably doesn't have a whole lot of good advice on the topic. He opened his mouth to reply, then closed it, smiled and started belly laughing. He said, "Point taken, I'll shut up"

So THATS why my son in law never asks for advice?
