Has anyone ever done a SAE J2825 noise test on there ST1300 with OEM exhaust and then a set of Delkevic's with DB killers ?
I have Delkevic's with DB killers and get a pretty consistent 95DB at an average of 18C but was curious what OEM was and if mine are similar to other ?

a set of Delkevic's with DB killers

by DB killers,,, do you mean the standard Delkevic removable baffles ?? I am not a fan of loud pipes,,, but I do have a set of 18" oval del's. I am not crazy about their sound when not using my custom earplugs,,, as the earplugs really mellow out the tone. I don't really care what my bikes sounds like to others,,, although my wife commented that it sounded much better with the del's, than with the oem pipes. And we have never had the baffles out of the Del's,,, and have no reason to try that. Cheers,, Cat'

I used the DB meter app on my phone and it says 84 decibels while at idle with the Delkevic exhaust on my 06 ST1300. Don't know what the stock exhaust was as the delkevic was on the bike when I purchased it.

This makes me think that if the government can easily field test bikes they could ticket and maybe control loud pipes.
This video shows the Officer having trouble determining RPM because the bikes Tachometer was either missing or never existed.
Now I get why it's so difficult to Enforce

I bought a cheap noise meter it shows my Stock Exhaust on a 98 ST1100 at 85 DB at 1200 Idle and 96 DB at 5k. This is a quiet bike.

Here is the Proceedure.

I kinda curious for many reasons but the other I was beside a ST1300 with OEM pipes and was surprised that is seemed just as loud at highway speed

Just did a sound test on my 2000 ST1100 with Full Delkevic 18 inch muffler, Baffles in.
Idle 85.5 DB 5K RPM 96 DB

Stock Exhaust on a 1998 ST1100 at 85 DB at 1200 Idle and 96 DB at 5k. This is a quiet bike.

The Delkevic is a deeper sound and it sounds better when accelerating, I'm really surprised the readings aren't higher.

Am used to the Delkevic 14 inch round slashcuts now. That said, they're great performance mufflers under WOT with KN drop in air filter, aftermarket jets and needles.

That being said, they are way too loud to consider pulling the baffles for what's left of my hearing.

DB control is a function of wrist management.

Some days I like 75 mph shift from 2nd to 3d.

I kinda thought the shorter the louder is how it would work.
So seems to be a sliding scale from full stock quiet 18 inch with Baffles to 14 inch shorty No Baffles!
I Think there was a 16 inch as well.

Years ago, the police was cracking down on noisy motorcycles. They offered a free road side noise test in a parking lot to educate the riding public. They set up a microphone about 3 feet behind and 3 feet to the side of the bike. The rider then rev the engine to 3000rpm. The resulting DB has to be no more than 91. I had 18" Delveric Trioval with baffles in my ST1300. My result was 81DB, not offensively loud.
