So, it's getting chilly here in Tropical Mn and keeping the visor defogged is a bit of a chore. I have a Shoei RF-900 and I've tried Rain-X defogging wipes that seem to last for about ten minutes. I also broke down and ordered a pinlock visor and a couple of inserts. The problem with the pinlock is that, it does fog, just not as much and particularly at night there is so much flaring, haloing, ghost images and other distortions of any light sources that I'm not that comfortable with it for night riding (add to that that the first insert had a residue on it and when I used a little distilled water with a microfiber cloth to clean it (the instructions warned to be careful because it will scratch easier than my regular shield, it got scratched to heck anyway... glad I bought two, until I tried it).

So what do you guys do to defog your helmets? Are any particular helmets better at keeping the fog at bay?

I've got an HJC CL-15. I leave chin vent open. Top vents closed. If I'm moving slow, like going through town. I have to leave shield cracked open slighty. But once I'm up to speed I can close it and not have any fogging problems. I've tried sprays and wipes. They don't last long. IMO

I've got an FR-700 ( I know, getting old and about time to replace it) and leave the visor "thumb latch" in the open position so that when I put the visor down, it leaves a slight air gap. I also flip it up when I come to a stop when it is cold or it will fog in 2 breaths (actually does get into the 20s here occasionally for my morning rides to work). I have also tried Rain-X anti-fog liquid and it does OK but not great. Just be careful with certain coated/layered goggle lenses and shields. Friend borrowed my Rain-X before an off-road race and ruined a new lens when the Rain-X got between the layers!

Try some Cat Cr_p*: CLICKY

*As much as it irks me when people bypass the board nanny and I have to go back and blot it out, this is actually the name of the product.

I use pin lock system here. I live in North West Ohio, and get into some really cold morning rides, so far pin lock has worked well for me, only problem I've seen is sometimes the pin lock seal leaks a little allowing some fog in. When that happens I have to remove the pin lock shield and re seal it to the face shield.

Pinlock works so far for me.

Try a little dish washing soap on the inside of the lens...simply wipe on and wipe off (without buffing...you want a very thin layer of soap). It works reasonably well.

I wear a Scorpion EXO 700 (my second one so far) with an Everclear shield on it. Works reasonably well keeping the fog from forming. Sometimes right at the bottom of the shield, inside, there is a smattering of small droplets. I have not noticed that there is any decrease in the effectiveness over time. In my Arai helmet , I used a Fog City insert, but night riding was chancy with it.

I was at a bike show and they were selling Zook, a anti fogging cream type substance that you rubbed in and then wiped off. Their demo worked wonders, but for some reason a real world application doesn't. I end up cracking my visor. Just my experience, so even though Zook is a specific anti fog. I wouldn't recommend it.

Then you play with the windshield to find the sweet spot that lets you keep the visor clear without swallowing gallons of water! Tricky business this riding passion.

Unless you are riding one of your bikes with a fixed windshield or no windshield.
