Panda Racer Extraordinare
Well... I bought a Cee Bailey's shield off the board here and had a few Q's so I thought I would post my reply in this forum for reference...I believe the shield to be a 4" taller, 2" wider shield with the center vent....see below.
Well...I've got about 1800 miles on it now, so I can say that I like it a lot! For accuracy I wanted to ask you a Q though.....I thought the shield looked a little bigger than 2+ high so I measured when I had both stock (2003 non ABS) and CB off the bike. My measurement came out to about 4 1/4" taller..which all things considered I think I like it better than if it was only 2+. Like I said, not griping, just want to give an accurate review for those who might want to buy one too.
For comparisons sake, my vitals are as follows: 6'2", 185lbs, 32-34" inseam, I have a 27" reach(palm to shoulder), and my bike is equipped with a MCL riser plate. My ST is a 2003 with a non electric 2 position, high/low, shield. I normally ride with a Large Nolan X-lite Flip up helmet, or a half helmet. If you are somewhere close to my size and your bike is similarly set up, my review may be helpful.
General Sizing Info:
In the down position the shield is 1-2 inches taller than the stock shield in the high position. In the high position, the Cee Bailey's is at the level of the bridge of my nose. I can look over it or through it depending on my posture
Positive:
1. Quality of manufacture is superb, thicker than stock, very little distortion...none in direct line of sight, edges polished.
2. Quieter than stock...very noticeable around town, less on the highway...due to the thickness, it does not vibrate at certain speeds as my stock shield did at times causing a resonant sort of buzz. High position is quieter behind the shield, but without sitting up quite straight I am looking through the shield. Low position is still pretty noisy on the interstate when I have my flip up on, shield down; half helmet is less resonant with the air flow.
3. Smoother airflow/ less back pressure...with the shield in either position it is an improvement from stock.
4. The CB shield has the vent in the center which helps with the back pressure/buffeting and also gives a nice flow of air to the rider.
Negative:
1. While the vent helps to still have some air flow and lessens back pressure/ buffeting, it also directs dust/dirt into your face if following another vehicle on a sandy or dusty road. Definitely not a deal breaker, but noticeable.
Hope this can give some shield shoppers some guidance!
