According to the oil filter chart from Calsci in the sticky, the ST1100 uses a class 5 filter. One of the recommended choices is the Bosch 3300. I used the Bosch 3323 with good results but when I tried the 3300 it would not spin on. Upon visual comparison there is a difference in diameter between the 3300 and the 3323.

Has anyone successfully used the 3300 on the ST1100 or is it a misprint in the Calsci chart?

May be a difference in the threads. In the back of some filter books, it will show what size / pitch threads are in the filter.

Without knowing for sure, I believe the 3300 and the 3323 are the same class filters... the different designation is probably for different applications... ie different thread/hole size. IF the 3323 is working... stay with it. I have used the 3300 on my wing... don't think I ever tried it on my 1100.

OK, I just checked out the specs on both the 3300 & 3323 at the Rockauto.com site ( good resource, BTW ) . Same threads on both - 20mm x 1.5mm/thread . The 3300 is about 3 inches long. The 3323 is about 3.5 inches long. Both same diameter. So , the 3300 should spin on , just the same as the 3323 ....... try it again . But I would use the longer 3323 myself. More filter area and less pressure drop.

OK, an embarrassing admission is in order. Despite staring at the filter extensively and repeatedly I just now noticed that I was trying a 3330 not a 3300. :doh1::nuts1:

My only excuse is that is the filter that fits my car. :???:
