Has anyone come across a service manual for the BMW 1300 GS?

BMW isn't doing that as of 2021 for any of their bikes. You have to rely on youtube guys to document the service. I suppose their way of forcing you to go to dealerships.

I’ve found a guy from Russia thats been doing YouTubes of the simple stuff like oil changes - he posts the torque settings onscreen which is all I really need.

There are general torques for standard sized metric bolts. You might look these up online and compare them to the specific BMW torques that guy posts. You do know that torques are for dry bolts, and if you lube them with oil or aunt seize, you should reduce the torque 15 to 20%.

Test question: If you are using loctite or a similar thread locker on the bolt, do you reduce the torque setting?

Good luck getting a printed service manual.

I purchased a new 2024 Ford F-250 pickup truck last July. It was NOT furnished with any printed owners manual. Period.

I was told by Ford that the only way to get a manual is online. It is available on the infotainment system in the vehicle, such as it is.

But, of course, if your battery is dead, or you have no cellphone service, you’re toast.

$55,000 purchase (plain Jane gas engine XL model) without an owner’s manual is an insult. The manual is not even available from Helm, Inc at any price.

JVB Productions sells maintenance videos, specs, etc. but doesn't have any 1300 stuff yet. Jim does a nice job with the videos and provides updates free on his site if anything changes.

A couple of years ago you could also buy some...less than legal....BMW service manuals on DVD from eBay, if you're into that sort of thing. Not sure if they are selling updated stuff or not. A friend bought one for a 2016 GS and it was same as the stuff the dealers use.

It’s not a few manufacturers restricting access to service information. It’s a shift across all segments of consumer products that formerly were subject to servicing, repair, or modification by owners. It’s unfortunate to those affected and an incentive to keep older models around.

Jim von Baden lives in Washington DC, and is the goto guy on ADVrider. His how-to videos are available for several models / engine configurations, but as mentioned not yet for the 1300.

There is at least one long thread, howling
over this injustice on ADV, and I've added my inconsequential voice to the cacophony.

Sadly as noted, more and more vehicle manufacturers are following this unpopular practice, even though producing DVDs can't be all that expensive, and the cost is always borne by the consumer anyway.

There is a remote hope that our legislators might reverse this, but as bikes are sold worldwide, I'm not holding my breath. Some of us written our legislators, but pfffttt!

Doesn't matter one whit, if your dealer resides hours away from you. Some, this poster included, are unhappy about it.

I don't think Jim has caught up to the 1300 just yet. But as others have mentioned, he has a slew of how-to videos show ing how to do certain maintenance, mostly on camheads and wetheads.
I use a Service manual on CD for my 2015 GSA, that I acquired from Ebay years ago. I think service manuals for the 1250's and 1300's will show up pretty soon.
