Bike shuts of while driving

If you are certain that there are no other electrical faults that appear at the same time that this happens would seem to indicate that this is not a ground/earth problem.
My first thought is that it sounds like the beginning stages of failure in the fuel delivery system, which is usually the fuel pump itself but not always.

When mine would do this, it eventually turned out to be a fuel pump issue. It would restart almost immediately every time; has been fine since the pump was replaced, YMMV.

I have understood that fuel pump issue causes engine stop and it would not fire up again. I can drive several thousand kilometers with no issues. And sometimes when leaving my carage engine stop while driving. After a while it again fires up and runs fine during whole trip. It's really confusing.

As in computers, and in other things, some of the hardest problems to identify are the intermittent ones.

In a general sense, it often points to a component that is failing.

Or, as in The Sixth Sense, it just doesn't realize it's dead yet.

It would help to locate the problem if ECM could show the fault code when engine shuts off. But no fault code.

Battery
Grounds
Fuel pump
Speed sensor switch
Does the clock reset to 0100?
Just because you hear the fuel pump wind up and try to prime, does not mean it’s holding pressure.
Check fuel pump flow, and fuel line hoses.
what does the speed sensor do and where is it?
how would one check the fuel pressure is fine?

Because fault doesn't remain and no fault codes exsists its really frustrating to search reason for engine shut offs. Engine "black out" takas only a few seconds there is not much time to check is there other electrical faults same time. And i have not managed to get fault on when running engine in my carage.

In my case I don't get any fault code but I think fault can be found when checking bank angle switch, bank angle realy, fuel pump realy and wires +connector related to those. And maybe fuel pump also?

And maybe fuel pump also?

Fuel pump keeps coming up ... and there was another member who had similar issues and testing fuel pump revealed it was week. Won't hurt any testing per manual just to take it out of the equation.

All the lights are bright, horn Ok, switches are good as well. So fuel pump maybe the issue. Earlier owner didn' t drive much and bike was in carage longer times.

What are the load and no-load battery voltage readings?
What is the year and mileage?
Could it be the beginnings of alternator failure? ...

Just for comparison I checked the battery on this "new to me" 2007 ST 1300 that I just bought the afternoon prior to Thanksgiving this year.

I did the voltage test when the bike was cold had not been run in about five days and had not been on a trickle charger or battery tender for the last four days the last time I brought the bike home from a short ride (6 miles) I did hook my battery tender up to it and left it on until the greenlight indicated the battery was fully charged --that took just a couple hours. Then I disconnected the charger from this bike (which some prior owner had installed an SAE pigtail to, so that I can leave all the fairings/ panels on and just pull a little 4 inch long plug out from between some cracks of the plastic to plug in my charger.)

RESULTS OF MY TEST:

Engine off: 13.2 volts.
Cranking, during that 1.5 second interval before the bike engine came to life: 10.9 to 10.5 volts.
After bike was running
at fast idle: 14.3 V.

Is the tank fill cap venting? I guess you could leave it partially open and try it.

There was a recall on early ST1300s for the earth wiring on the frame cross member under the rear of the tank just in front of the front seat bracket. Im not sure it applied to the 2006 though. Still worth checking. It got chafed and would cut through the earth wires. Easy to check whether the wires are intact and whether there is any poor contact / corrosion around that ring connector and bolt. Clean it up - shiny new metal to metal. Bolt it up, protect with grease.
