Bike insurance

About a month ago we got our car insurance renewal...it was double the previous premium. My wife started calling everyone to get quotes. I went down to a body shop guy I know and asked him how the various companies dealt with him. He said both Progressive and Geico 'suc*'. State Farm, he said was very fair and good to work with and Erie was very good. Erie is a regional company trying to expand, when we asked for a quote for our cars and bikes, they beat Progressive's price and increased the limits. We bought Erie. They also have an interesting option...for $20 they will lock in the premium - the cost will never go up unless you buy a new (another) car or add a driver.
I've had Erie for almost a decade on my house and 5 cars/trucks. Homeowners went up 25% this year, never had a claim. Auto policy went up about the same this year, decreased some of my coverage to get back to the old price. Erie also stated they didn't really want to cover my ST, recommended Progressive who I've had for years.

Agree from personal experience that Geico does in fact suck.

I guess we all have to pay for all the natural disasters last year through higher premiums this year. And, of course once the prices are up they probably aren't coming back down.

I guess I'm one of the few that buck the Progressive trend, so to speak. Ive had them for over a decade, I insure my 2000 ST and my sons 87 Yamaha for $140/yr, and they said my rate actually went down this upcoming year (though I haven't checked...probably just a few dollars).

Ive had one claim about 2018 where I laid it down low speed due to sudden stop. I was okay except for a sore shoulder. Got it looked at but no followup needed. They initially wanted to total it but I convinced them that there was nothing structural or safety related that was broke...the line item for a new pannier which was only scratched up was $1200! I got enough to repair it and a little more, and it is not marked as a salvage title.

Are they great now? Can't say since it's been almost 8 years since I've needed them. But they work and I'm riding legal. So that's good enough for me.
