Any Advice on How to Reduce Helmet Noise Without Ear Plugs

Really? She can’t handle wearing ear plugs for a few hours. Can you give us the measurements of her ear canals? When my earplugs start bothering me, I just don’t insert them as far. She should experiment with how far she can put them in and be comfortable. She could also learn to be mildly uncomfortable for a little while.

I appreciate the feedback - can't tell if it's intended to be humorous or not. There is absolutely no reason she should "learn to be mildly uncomfortable" at all. Sometimes I ride for 3 - 4 weeks straight while touring with earplugs in and I'm not uncomfortable. She rides anywhere from a day to 3 weeks at a time with me and I want her to be as comfortable as possible. I enjoy having her ride with me. What's the saying - happy wife, happy life.

I appreciate all the feedback to date. I'm looking into a number of the options posted here including custom earplugs, wind collars etc and will report back with my/our progress.

There are different sizes for foam ear plugs. Years ago, I tried the 3M Radians on some advice from this forum:

But I found them too small for my ear canals so they didn't block enough noise for my liking.

I currently use the Flents brand that I get at wallyworld:

They work great for me and block out more noise than any other type I have used to date.

I actually still use the Radians when I want to sleep with earplugs (I work nights and sleep late into the morning and I have noisy neighbors). The Flents block out so much noise that my alarm wont wake me in the morning but the Radians let in just enough noise that I can still hear my alarm.

Anyway, my point is, your wife might have small ear canals so the Radians might fit her better without discomfort.

Growing up in the 60’s we used moldable wax or Silly Putty for ear plugs. Fits any sized ear.

Women’s ear canals are generally around 20mm smaller than men’s, and sizing tends to be based on men’s ears. My sister has the same issue. Having small ear canals, it took her time to find earplugs that fit properly. Finally, she ask an audiologist at the hearing aid repair service when taking our mom's hearing aids there. As far as I know, she uses Mack’s Slim Fit or Mack’s Dreamgirl foam earplugs now. Both are good for smaller ear canals and travel.

Making a helmet quieter....I mean reallllly quieter.

Once in a while a blind squirrel finds a nut. I bought an oversize helmet and returned it but just in case I could not I snagged this. Figured neoprene was comfie and keep my earphones snug. Well damn it works the charm and quieter than my C3. Was a tad tight off the bat on my XL but after 15...

That implies that men's ear canals are generally greater that 20mm and that seems to be pretty huge. I haven't seen ear plugs much larger than half that, if that big at all.
