Antigravity Batteries

Just wanted everyone to know that this is another option that is out there. I have been looking to install a larger battery on the ST for some time now and I was looking at the Odyssey battery where you have to make several modifications and buy the police parts to hold the battery. So in my hunt for a better one I found this Lithium Battery that fits prefect with the only small modification of removing the factory hold down. The battery fits snug and is not going anywhere.

This Battery is made in the USA and delivers 720CA's it is amazing how fast the ST turns over now as my original battery was starting to get weak. Here is a picture of it.

I like my Atyihgrabvity battery, but I don't have the 720 amps. I went with the one with the button on top to restart the battery when it has run down too far. But with the ST you MUST also get the remote so you do not need to get at the battery to push the button on top. I ran the battery down once and sure enough the little remote did the trick and my bike started right up.

I have the remote which is a 9 volt battery and the connector to plug in and have used it on Tim's ST before he got the right battery tender and it works great.

Another update on this Antigravity battery, it is still going strong after 11 years and the bike now has 301,000 miles on it.

I think this battery was a great investment!
Which one do you have? The photo in your first post doesn't load. You stated 720 CA but the only 720 CA I saw on their website (YTX12-24) doesn't have the restart feature that you stated that you have. For the ST1300 they list the ATZ10 at 360 CA and with the restart feature.

It has been 11 years so I guess that their line-up could have changed since then.

Here is the one I have, they did not have the restart feature at that time.

Antigravity has their batteries on sale twice a year and that is the time to get one.IMG_20131212_154929_102.jpg

Good to know. I get the feeling that I will need a new battery before the next riding season so both options are something to consider.

I seem to recall that these don't do well in the cold. Regular winter starting/riding in the 30s.
Real world experiences with this?

Mike said he has had the bike down to 21º - presumably F with no problems in an earlier post. IIRC, in the worst case - if it is very cold, you turn on the ignition and wait 30 seconds for lights to draw some current from the battery to warm it up. At that point there is no problem starting the bike. I have no idea what effect storing a bike with this battery would have in an unheated garage at winter temps. You might contact Antigrav and ask them.

I have had this battery down to 2.2 degrees with no problems and have camped numerous times in the mountains with temps down in the low 20's with no problems. This is the only battery I have installed in this bike other than the original battery and it has never missed a beat so far.

From the very little reading that I have done on lithium batteries it seems like you might have made a wise choice in getting the much higher than recommended 720 CA* rated Antigravity battery. If there is any truth to what I have read it seems like it might be a good idea with lithium batteries that will be used in very cold weather.

A sealed lead acid battery's available amperage drops by about 45% at 0° F. This equates to around 130 amps being available from the OEM Yuasa 230 CCA rated battery at that temperature. I have read that at this same temperature a lithium battery's amperage drops in the vicinity of 70%. If this is accurate the 720 CA battery is still capable of around 220 amps at 0° F. This is still about 100 amps more than what the lead acid battery is capable of at that same temperature. This would easily explain why your ST cranks over so well even in the cold.

Antigravity recommends thier 360 CA rated battery for the ST1300. If the above is anywhere near accurate, at the same 0° F this battery's output drops to around 110 amps. This is getting pretty darn low to crank over an ST1300 engine let alone a very cold and very stiff ST1300 engine. Maybe this explains why some people who have lithium batteries have experienced some issues in cold temperatures. Maybe what you did in going with a much higher capacity battery than what is recommended is the way to go with lithium if very cold temperatures is part of the equation.

*CA is not the same as CCA and is not rated the same way.

Got some NOCO LiFePO4, neither GF's NT700VA nor my ST1100Y shows any issues down to -5°C...
The trick seems to be to first put some load on them; her hardwired headlights and my accessories do just that... by the time we fumble our other glove on those things deliver... massive...

I think the Li battery cold starting “issue” with respect to motorcycle applications is largely academic. 95% (maybe more) of motorcyclists aren’t going to ride at the temperatures where cold starting is a question. I acknowledge there will be exceptions…
The coldest I’ve started my Super Ténéré with its Li Scorpion battery is low 30°s F. In that instance it cranked pretty much normally.
